Trouble sleeping with any masks

Post by jlsmithseven » Sat May 28, 2022 7:41 am

Hi
I’ve been on the forum before and had a few guys help me with trying new masks and stuff. Anyways a few people suggesting changing the min pressure to 10 instead of 4 would help me with my apnea since it was mostly in the 10-12 range when I did have an episode. I’m currently on a 4 min pressure with 20 as max and 3 EPR . My sleep doctor suggested that I just leave it as it is since it was working. However now I can’t find a mask that works, I’ve tried probably 6 different styles and just got the bleep ones soon to try. My hose is from November same with water chamber. I have an air sense 11, could my hosing and stuff be worn out ?

Hoses and Water chambers don't wear out....Only your room air is flowing through the hose and the water chamber is acrylic plastic...Clean it if it is dirty.
Your hose and water chamber have nothing to do with the mask.

I read somewhere that the plastic breaks down inside the tubing and it can lead to inefficiency that’s why I said that, plus they recommend replacing every 3 months. I use distilled water so the chamber is probably fine but they recommend 6 months for that as well at it’s been 8, just trying to narrow it down because my therapy went a lot better when I first got everything.

Who is "they"?

Did you ever think it was a bit funny that "they" seem to recommend replacing stuff at the exact frequency that most insurance will pay for replacing stuff?

Think about it. Why does a hard plastic water chamber need to be replaced every 6 months? Now they can fail but it sure isn't very often and most of the time if they leak it is because someone damaged them but I personally have had only one leak and need to be replaced with no trauma to it...and replaced 2 leaky ones because I dropped them on the floor and broke the seal. This is over a time span of 13 years I have been on cpap therapy. 3 lost the seal and leaked...one was simply unknown cause but 2 were because I broke them when I dropped them.

I recently replaced a heated hose that had over 10 K hours on it....it developed a hole in it...probably from my cat catching it with her claws.

Do you throw out plastic drinking glasses every 6 months?

With common sense care this stuff will last a LOT longer than the "recommended replacement time frame".

Thank you I realized that I just am trying to narrow down why my therapy has been difficult for me as of late.

And landfills will not be clogged up with more plastic.

I have hard plastic containers in my kitchen that are several YEARS old.
Most plastics are chemically resistant to just about everything.
This is why they must not go into landfills.
The "use by" date on SodaStream bottles is pure BS.
So is any statement made by a DME.
They lie as easily as they breathe.

Without really knowing any details as to what machine (brand and model) your are using, what equipment your are using....we can't really offer much except a WAG (wild ass guess) can we?

I would first start with the actual therapy itself since you are using the machine at the factory default settings.

Get OSCAR and post a typical night...let's see if your therapy is even optimal before we go blaming equipment for your crappy sleep.

Also...exactly what symptoms are you experiencing that you wish you didn't experience? Trouble falling asleep? Trouble staying asleep? Fatigue during the day? What is the exact problem you want to fix?

I used water chamber for 2 years..... I only had one issue with mask, I pressed hose plastic into mask to hard and cracked it. Other then that, in 12 years no supply defects....

sorry i thought it still had my settings and machine when i last posted here. its a resmed airsense 11. i changed the default min to 6, it was at 4 and it seems a little bit better i definitely get more air which is nice and should help keep my nasal passages clear. they get clogged pretty easy as soon as i lay down.

to make things worse our power went off the other night so of course i woke up in the middle of the night fighting for breath. now im researching for the airsense 11 and theres no good solution to a battery backup without having a 12v battery in my bedroom.
