SD Card Question - Using New CPAP

Post by Gator5000e » Wed May 18, 2022 9:08 am

Hello all. Hope everyone is well. My main AirSense 10 went on the fritz and I am now using a backup AirSense 10 I have. I am nervous about using the SD card from the machine that went bad in the new machine. My fear is that when I insert the old SD card in the new machine, it will format the SD card and erase all the data from the old machine. Is this fear founded? Or can I insert the old card in the new machine without any worries? Any thoughts appreciated.

PS - I thought there was a thread on this but I could not find it, so have patience with me!!

Thanks in advance.

Your concerns a real.

An SD Card can only keep data for a single ResMed machine.

Buy a second SD card, get the cheapest you can find, so long as it's 32G or smaller.

You can also back up your old SD Card to your computer, then start using your existing SD Card on the new machine.

I don't think it will format or do anything to the old card without asking your permission.
The new machine might not care about the old data being on the SD card...now you might run into a problem if the new machine doesn't care and you have 2 machines files on the SD card and try to use OSCAR. OSCAR might have a problem knowing which file to access.

You know you can always copy the old data files to a folder on your computer and make sure they are safe that way no matter what you do.

You can always just get a second SD card...not horribly expensive and doesn't have to be anything fancy.
Generic cheap SD card will work just fine.

Thanks. I ask ed because I get the message "Preparing your SD card" when it's inserted making me think it's formatting the card. I like to keep all of it on one card cause that is what I bring my doctor when I go see him. They take the card adn download the data. I will copy the card to my PC and then copy everything to a second card to take to the doctor. Hopefully that will work.

I have switched the SD Card from my original AS10 to my S9 and then to my newer AS10 without problems. Oscar shows everything

We have had a few who report that OSCAR seems to have trouble when there are 2 machines on one SD card.
Now is it OSCAR or maybe user error??? Entirely possible that the user is doing something weird.
So I warn that there might be a problem so that the person is on the alert that OSCAR might have a problem and then they are forewarned and better able to figure out a solution. Might be....is the operative term here.
Just had someone the other day on Jason's forum who had a problem getting all his data when there were 2 machines on the SD card. Removed the older machine file and then OSCAR imported all the recent data as expected.

Bluedragon has commented, numerous times that data from multiple machines can confuse OSCAR, though this should not be an issue as the OP isn't asking about loading it into OSCAR. As Pugsy stated earlier, when inserting the SD Card into the new machine, a warning prompt will be displayed prior to over-writing the new data.

Data from two AS 10s can not co-exist on the same card.

LSAT's advice is poor advice. He is correct that OSCAR wont care, but he's not understanding what the OP is asking.

The OP wants previous data retained on the SD Card, so he can bring it into his doctor. Following LSAT's advice will clobber the data on the SD Card.

DS...Here's some additional information...My AS10 had a problem and was sent in for repair....on 1/19/21 I switched to my back up S9 until 2/17/21 when the AS10 was replaces with a new machine. The original SD Card was used for all 3 machines. I went back to look at the Oscar data for days prior to 1/19/21, the period after 1/19/21 and the period after 2/17/21. All the data is in tact. Doesn't that mean that the data was in tact on the card and was not clobbered? I have no way to look at the SD Card today and look at the data.

PS...I never gave any advice...I just stated my experience.

All the data is intact *in OSCAR*, it is no longer intact on the SD Card.

PS...Fine, your experience was not relevant to what the OP was asking about. And by stating it, a natural interpretation would be, his data from his previous device would be left intact if he did the same thing. It wouldn't be.
