APAP Result - one day

Post by wade0001 » Wed May 04, 2022 4:14 pm

I have been lurking here and finally downloaded OSCAR and saved one day from my ResMed Airsense 11 APAP

I'd like to post the graphs and data but don't know how to post a screen shot or if I need to do something else like post a link.

Basically, my questions is going to be....

Moderate apnea diagnosed 9 months ago. Finally got a machine 2 months ago.

My sleep is much more sound and I feel much better... but I still wake up 3 times a night for no apparent reason (and if I am looking at OSCAR for one sampled night correctly, it looks like that confirms I am not waking up from events themselves. Go figure.

Anyway... let me try to post a graph of something close and if I fail I'll just leave this message and maybe get some technical help as to how to post the results.

Thanks

Well... looks like I can't upload even a photo into this message board so I'll have to find an image uploader...

If you press REPLY there is an area below that says ATTACHMENTS. Press than and then download the picture or chart.

the problem is that the attachment "bin" is full again.

pugsy is asking for some of those older attachments to be deleted. SHE can't do it, it has to be from forum members who uploaded them.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Some people must have deleted some of the files because the attachment storage is showing green right now but it won't last long. So it will work right now but I have no way of knowing how long it will last. For all I know 2 or 3 files might make it full again.

So it will work right now but I have no idea how long it will last.

So, what was happening during the two breaks in therapy? Bathroom maybe?

You mention waking up three or so times during the night. This is actually quite normal; the question is how long you stay awake. Long time?

When you post another charts would you squeeze in these graphs:

Events
Flow rate
Pressure
Leaks
Flow limitations.

Just grab the gray bars that separate the graphs and push up to squish them.

I'm especially interested to see your FL graph, because I'm betting a lot of your pressure changes are coming from FLs. And either the FLs themselves or the pressure changes may be messing with your sleep.

In the interests of more comfortable sleep, I would recommend that you try raising your minimum to 8 and using EPR of 2. This will drop your pressure by 2 cm H2O when you exhale, which for many people feels like a more natural way to breathe. And by the same token it will raise your pressure by 2 when you inhale, which may help with FLs. Of course, the FLs may not be bothering you at all, or the pressure changes either, but if you're up for an experiment, this is what I'd start with.

A couple of other things. You probably got less than 7 hours of actual sleep, which is just not enough for most people. Can you try to get more? And do you know what is causing your large leaks? It would be good to fix them.

Man, you are good!

I do get up to pee... but not like I have to.. more like I'm so used to just going ahead and peeing while I'm awake.

I'll see about collapsing my graphs as you say... but please be patient with me. I've spent all of 30 minutes total trying to navigate the huge amount of data. :)

Funny, but 7 hours is actually a HUGE IMPROVEMENT from where I was before my machine.

Also, I have a well trimmed beard and using a face mask but hate putting it too tight so that's probably the source of the air leaks.

I''m up for tweaking and trying one small improvement at a time. Love this thing and just want to make it better.

Ah, facial hair. If you haven't already, you might try watching a few videos about how to fit your particular kind of mask. Often, tightening is not the answer (though that seems counterintuitive).

One nice thing about using CPAP is that it can reduce the number of times we actually need to pee during the night:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25623679/

So you might try taking advantage of that by not getting up to pee, since it probably wakes you up more thoroughly than just lying in bed and dropping back off to sleep. And of course you might want to limit fluids starting around 2-3 hours before bedtime.

And it's great to hear you're seeing improvement in sleep time already. I hope more is in store for you.

Thank you.

Like others on here, I was a zombie until I got my machine. Had to wait 8 months due to the recall and backlog.

I will try to not get up to pee , however... been doing that for 10s of years so that will be hard to stop. And I stop drinking anything by 5 pm. Go figure....

Made the change on the pressure and outward back pressure settings so that should be interesting to see what effect that has.

thanks for everyone's help so far

please, don't worry about that. it will correct itself when you get further into your treatment.

however, i'm seven years treated and i still get up once a night to pee.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
