Respironics and Resmed calculate the leak rates *totally* differently, there's no comparison.

However, your leaks with the new mask are higher than the machine likes. Why don't you try your old mask?

Needs do change over time. However, they will never change in such a way that leaving the machine at the default setting is appropriate.
Good to know. :D

I'll try the old mask if I can't get the #'s to come down or get the new mask adjusted. I'm up against a wall with the old mask. I need to change as some parts (gel pad) of the old TrueBlue mask are NLA on the primary and secondary markets.

I agree. I set it to close to the original prescription so I could sleep and get used to the new machine and mask. If further tweaks are needed then I'll work on it incrementally. I just didn't want to change too much at once.

Thanks,
Chris

I would FIRE any doctor insisting my cpap be left at factory defaults.
His JOB is helping me find an effective range for TREATMENT;

Factory defaults exist for some reason or other,
but I doubt they are appropriate for ANYONE but a very few.
I'll find out more tomorrow afternoon at a follow-up appt.

Thanks,
Chris

You know my prescribing doctor was / is an ENT. He prescribed factory defaults. I was in for unrelated GERD and asked for a sleep study and he was happy to prescribe one per my request. I just went back from my insurance mandated follow up interview. Told him I adjusted settings to something that is working for me, he said "Good for you, glad it is working". I probably would not have done that except for learning here and on my own. But then again he was not a "Sleep Doctor". Still you would think SOMEONE in the medical system would follow up and make sure I was doing okay and stuff was working.

So why is it a stupid ?
The person I was responding to was able to understand my comment,

It's not necessary for YOU to understand it, not that it appears you want to, given how I've already explained it.

Long, thoughtful detailed response to a twit.
I might have missed it in what you said, but another aspect of setting the min pressure too low is that the machine spends the whole night trying to get back to that min pressure, thus causing repeated cycles of pressure too low, bad sleep, increases in pressure.

You didn't miss it. I didn't go into that part.
But....from what I have seen I don't think it matters much.
I guess I "perceive" things differently and all those journals and papers that I did take the time to read are all wrong.
Not to mention nearly 13 years on auto adjusting pressures of some sort.

When I get essentially told to go pound sand...That's pretty much what I will do but I will remember and save myself some typing the next time.
The F list just grew again. Thankfully will save me some reading as well as responding. Won't be wasting my time again.
I am a quick study.

But maybe someone else will learn something from what I wrote since it was essentially for everyone and not one person anyway.

I am off to make a new voodoo doll. I can sure see it being needed. :D

and it can't be stressed enough. even if a user is just lurking and reading stuff, they can learn things. i've learned more from watching discussions on the forum than from actual questions. i might not need the info NOW, but i will prolly need it someday.

This is being blown up WAY out of proportion and somehow being regarded as a personal attack on you.

Please review my post at 2:18 pm, I asked if there was any data that quantifies a delay between the onset of a flow limitation and the machine beginning to increase pressure.
That is a perfectly reasonable question that relates to the notion that the machine is just "twiddling it's little thumbs".

Science question not a "go pound sand" reaction.

2nd Question, related to the first, was if there is a measurable delay, does the delay time relate to the current pressure. (In other words, is the response time to a flow limitation dependent on whether the current pressure is 4 cm or 10 cm).

Again a technical question, not a gotcha question.
