CPAP.com can't sell to certain states?

Post by tisket » Mon Apr 18, 2022 11:18 am

Went to CPAP.com for the first time in awhile and saw this:

"At this time, we are unfortunately unable to ship prescription-required items to FL, MT, NC, ND, TN."

Looked around here for a thread on this but didn't see one. Anybody know how long this has been going on and if/when it will end? I am guessing some law or regulation changed though it seems odd it changed in certain states all at the same time.

Thanks.

Check out above link. This was the first time we heard about the "can't ship to this state" problem.

Also....verify that the machine you have chosen in your equipment profile is what you are using.
Your equipment profile says the AirStart and your signature says AutoSet...they are NOT the same thing.
If you couldn't find ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet in your choices.....look down in the R's. It's not in the same AirSense area as the others.

Those states listed do seem to have one thing in common:
Gue$$ what that is.

To send prescription items mail order to a state the company must have a pharmacist licensed by that states board. Its a pain. They must have lost their pharmacist that was licensed in those states. I work for a compounding pharmacy and we can not send prescriptions to Mississippi.

Wow. This must be a recent problem as I received my AirSense 11 at the end of February in Florida.

Somewhat on topic....
This winter we were vacationing in Florida and I needed to get a my doctor (back home) to OK a prescription for a UTI.
I have a very good relationship with my PCP and trust him completely and he knows my personal medical history inside and out.

So I called his office in Pennsylvania, and he told me that he is not permitted to talk with any of his patients in Florida - orders from his employer the Medical Center!

So I called the Medical Center for explanation. They said that Florida demands that non-Florida resident doctor practicing medicine (including ordering a prescription) in Florida are required to file an application and be approved by the State of Florida after paying the application fee. Also learned that non-Florida nurses are subject to the same state law.

The only thing that my doctor, or his nurse could tell me was: "Find a doctor in Florida that is accepting new patients (and hope that your UTI doesn't progress to septic shock)

ANYTHING FOR A BUCK .

Yep. That's what it boils down to. Screw the patient.

If I was a snow bird....I would find another place to rest besides any state that makes it hard for me to get needed medical care or supplies. I would be damned if they got another dime from me.

That must be new because I have had out of state prescriptions phoned in before here in Florida. I ran into a different problem: pharmacists who refused to fill them. In fact as I found out, certain medications won't be filled even if they are prescribed by a Florida doctor who is in state, but in a different county. My brother is a doctor and had to negotiate over the phone with the pharmacist who deigned to give me three pills to theoretically buy me time to get a local doctor to write the same scrip.

Also I had a scrip with refills and switched a refill from one Publix to another for convenience one time. I found I was not allowed to switch it back for the other refills because there is a restriction on how many times (I.e. more than once) it can be transferred between pharmacies - even if they're just different Publix stores.

My advice - bring everything with you that you can, and if you have a problem, go to the ER or an urgent care. That's how things here seem to work now. Haven't had a doctor who would "work me in" for something urgent in years.

I suspect some new laws went into effect this year in some states.
More may follow as other states figure out they can require more fees and make more money.

Your HS kid can also get slapped down by the governor for wearing a mask.

while that's true, how many snowbirds know this?

this is what bothers so much about states' rights advocates. we are all just moseying along thinking what applies in MY state applies elsewhere.

Its not just Florida. California and New York were the first to implement the new doctor requirements and now a lot of states are following making it a nightmare for pharmacists, techs and basically the entire medical profession. Its all started because of the stupid war on drugs and the pandemic only made things worse.
