Fifty hours could well be just what was used on checking the machine before putting it on the market... most machines would show a small # of hrs I think vs zero and to fuss about that (especially in a dearth of choices lately) seems like a waste of time to me as long as everything else checks out. Quite honestly I might not have thought even the 400 hrs was a terrible thing except for their having called it brand new (or whatever they claimed). And you could always ask for a small discount can't you? They may not give it, but nothing to lose by trying.

When I got home I noticed the machine had a few little scuffs and so I decided to check the run hours and there's almost 400 hours!
You know I got mine 51 days ago and I did not think to check the mileage. I looked brand new in the case and everything. I show 483 hours but adding up the average usage backwards for 51 days I get only 433 hours meaning the machine had 50 hours on it. I wonder if this is a common thing with Resmed Airsense 10 Autosets being in short demand.
But in reality is 50 hours on a new machine any different than getting a new car with 50 miles on the odometer?
Has anyone else checked their machine when they got it or backtracked their hours to see how many it had when new?
I am thinking those 50 hours are from the cool down period where the machine still blows air for about 30 minutes after you turn it off to dry out things.
Cool down time blowing still count towards machine run hours but doesn't count for therapy hours.
Your machine probably had 0 hours on it when you got it.
You don't have to do averages either.
adding up the average usage backwards for 51 days I get only 433
There is a therapy hour total and a run hour total on your machine. So 2 different numbers pertaining to use are available on the machine LCD screen.
Therapy hours and run hours.

No....any testing hours aren't part of the run hours.
If the machine hasn't ever been used it will show 0 hours for run hours (and of course therapy hours).
Therapy hours can be reset to zero but run hours can't be reset except at the factory level.
Now a DME might use a machine as a demo in the office and the machine might have just a few hours on it but it started with 0 hours.

Somewhere in this thread, there is a suggestion to ask your DME who are the other DMEs that your insurance company deals with. IMO, this amounts to asking a business who their competitors are. They will give you the answer that is in THEIR benefit, not in your benefit. They may give you the name of a DME whose service is so bad that you will return to the original company. The better approach IMO is to ask your insurance company what other DMEs are in-network.

Please don't take this the wrong way Pugsy, is there anything you don't know about CPAP?
That makes perfect sense, plus warm up time is another 1/2 hour which adds up to 1 hour a day which would explain the extra 50 hours for 51 days use.

I doubt warm-up mode contributes to the run hours timer. The blower isn't running, only the heater plate.

Well....I am sure that there's a lot that I don't know about cpap or sleep apnea but the basics I do have covered fairly well.
Most of it is just common sense anyway.
The run hours vs therapy hours thing has been discussed many times in the past and I just remembered those discussions.
This isn't the first time the discrepancy has been discussed. I long ago lost count of the number of ResMed users who came here and were saying "OMG my DME gave me a used machine because my therapy hours and the machine run hours don't match"...and we do a little math and it added up to the cool down mode hours making up the difference.
Now sometimes the discrepancy wasn't so little as in the case here but instead the discrepancy was quite huge and the only answer was indeed the person got a used machine where they assumed it was a new machine.....but not very often.
I have been here coming on 13 years in May of this year. There really hasn't been any real new questions in many years.
Most questions that people might have we have already answered many times over and the answers are there for the reading if people would REALLY take the time to go back and read the old posts. People don't take the time though and I do realize that the search function here is sorely lacking in its ability to answer a question because people don't know what questions to ask or they don't even try. Most of the time I think people don't try anymore. They want immediate gratification and an answer right NOW.
If I have time to answer and the inclination....I am okay with giving immediate gratification.
If I don't have the time or the inclination....then I don't.

correct...warm up time is just for warming up the water and maybe the air if someone is using a heated hose.
The blower itself isn't running during warm up and it is the blower run hours that get counted.
If it is blowing air ....it goes towards run hours.

I see I missed a lot of this conversation. Sorry for the lack of updates. I was pretty much over the whole situation by Friday and didn't even want to think about it for a few days.
I had to make several calls to get a half-assed apology with a heavy touch of gaslighting, so I returned the machine. There was no offer to reduce price or handle it otherwise. That machine will be pawned off to the next new unsuspecting client they can trick into paying full price. I'm going to have to file this one under: "Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn." Now I get to go to the back of the line and start over.

I really appreciate all the feedback!

I would consider a different DME, other than this sneaky one, if possible.
IMO, they do not deserve your business--if you have an alternative.

100% agree! Especially after I was told this is a common practice for them. 🤯
I'm bummed about having to start the process over, but feel like I dodged a bullet! I know the next DME may be just as bad, but I'll take my chances since I'm a bit wiser.
I am going ahead and purchasing a used machine privately for now and it can be my backup once I get the insurance provided one.
