They can't be private, or nobody here could see them either.

But without the URL, there is no way that they can be readily retrieved. Add to that, don't use an account you use for other (personal) images and don't include sensative information in your posted images.

anyone that has the link can see them. take a look at jumblegirl's oscar graph thread. she supplies the link, we click and go see 'em.

You know I don't know the answer to that question.
Nor do I know if we make it private but then WE provide a link to the image if others can see it or not.
Even if they (others on imgur) could access the images I don't know why they would want to as they wouldn't really know what they were looking at anyway.

I have always made it a point, though, to never put anything out there that has potentially anything on it that is personally identifiable anything on the images.
If I did for some reason put it out there then it would only be available a very short time.

Technically, anybody in the Internet has access to it.
Practically, only the people who have the link (those on CPAPTalk) have access to it.

One can't just go to imgur and display your images, one needs a link.

Picture a library with millions of books sorted in without order.

I want you to have access to one of my books so I give your the link (the link being its location), you can then go get the book.

But anybody else who wants my book simply can't look at it because they have no idea where amongst the millions of books it it. Their only option is to go look at a book; is this it, no; look at another book, is this it, no; millions of times.

And even then they would not know it's mine, because there is no information in it, linking it to me.

Well the relief was short lived.
The attachment storage is full again.

Most of the offenders are no longer active here on the forum. They came, posted pictures of whatever and left.

I can't do anything about it. I don't have access to what I would need access to so that I could manually clean out the old files which really aren't needed anymore.

People are just going to have to use some other photo hosting website like we used to do years ago before we could even do attachments.

Anyone still here and you have used the attachment storage feature and the image is no longer relevant....clean out your attachment storage please. It will help a little bit but short term I know.

Again...nothing I can do about it. I have emailed Carolyn several times and also sent her PMs in the past.
I didn't get a response.

If you all want to send her a PM and complain....by all means go ahead. I give up.

I went to my photobucket account just now and deleted alll photos that I posted to cpaptalk.com. So, I don't know if that helped.
Also, under the User Control Panel | Manage Attachments, the phrase shows, "This is a list of attachments you have made in posts to this board.
You have posted no files". So I don't know if that means if any attachements were deleted at one time.

Photobucket or imgur or any other web based photo hosting site is totally different from the forum attachment storage.
Deleting any photobucket image links doesn't help the attachment storage problem we have here.

The "you have posted no files" just means you never used the forum's attachment storage for your images.
While I appreciate the fact that you tried to help...you always used an outside storage for you images and your images were never a factor in the storage being full problem.

The problem is with a bunch of people who came here and posted a ton of images and then left and never came back and their images are taking up storage space that others could be using.

As a moderator I simply don't have the powers to access the attachment storage area to clean those old images out nor do I have access to their account profiles to go in and manually clean them out.

As this remains an ongoing challenge, here are some simple instructions on how to add images from an external site like Imgur.

1. Go to Imgur.com
2. Click on “new post”
3. Either drag your images into the “drop images here” area or click on “chose photo/video” and follow the prompts to either select it from your photo library or other source
4. Click on the picture once uploaded, then click on the “copy link” button when it appears
5. Come back to the forum and add it to a post using the little image icon and paste the link from step 4 between the img and /img - note you may have to add a “.jpg” extension to the pasted link for it to work

Voila. Le fin.
