Forgot to wash mask today

Post by SparklesMum » Tue Jan 25, 2022 11:37 pm

Hi all,
I’ve been really good about washing my tubing and mask daily/weekly disinfecting. However, today I had to leave early and forgot. It’s too late to do it now. Is it okay to use it without washing for one night?

Thanks

Heck yes!
You may discover, as I did, that daily washing is not only unnecessary,
but A PAIN IN THE BUTT!
Whatever level of cleaning that makes you feel comfortable is just fine.
It is YOUR equipment, after all.
You are the only one that knows, or cares.

Sometimes I forget to wash my cushion too. That's why I have some baby wipes. A quick swipe with a baby wipe removes face oil and whatever else is on the mask, leaving it clean and ready to use. The hose I rinse out about every 6 months or so. I change the filter whenever I remember. (zonker, this is your clue to check your filter :D ).

OMG...I wash my mask about once a month...Wipe down with a baby wipe most nights. Don't loose sleep over it.

OMG, I also forgot to wash my mask today, and the last 13 days.

Come to think of it, I forgot to wash my hose as well, pretty sure I forgot to wash it the last 1200 days.

Forgot to put distilled water in my humidifier tank last night. I've forgotten last 1300 days.

Right now your mask contains a whole bunch of bacteria that came from you. Had you cleaned it, 10 seconds after putting it on tonight, it will contain a whole bunch of bacteria from you. There is a good argument to be said for regularly cleaning the mask cushion to remove oils for better seals. And that's where wiping with a baby wipe is of value.

The industry has many people so wound up over excessive cleaning, distilled water and over-replacement, people are wasting time, effort and resources unnecessarily.

Not really.
If you are only comfortable with frequent cleaning and replacement--just do it.
Please do not try to convince the rest of us to do likewise.
And please, please, PLEASE avoid ozone devices.
They do NOTHING but waste time and money.

Don't take it personal. They act like this all the time.

(I never wash my mask. I do like to wipe off the body oils with an alcohol swab - the kind insulin-dependent diabetics use before an injection. My hose is a few years old and has never been washed. Nothing goes through it except filtered air and water vapor.)

Yep, they do act like this all the time, especially whenever new users ask questions (and god-forbid it's a cleaning question).

Makes ya wonder if there is some secret society CPAPTalk.com cabal in the back rooms around here!

Personally, I have never washed my equipment every day. When I first started, the respiratory therapist I worked with said she washed her equipment once a week. That sounded reasonable to me, so I adopted that schedule when I first started. Now, I am doing good to wash things every two weeks. Just clean to the level and frequency you are comfortable with.

The raccoon is wrong.
We do take issue with those who try to convert us.
Otherwise, most of us know that OCD is a miserable way to live;
and people who capitalize on it are truly wicked.
