Resmed Aircurve Water Tank Mod

Who has that much space on the nightstand?
I have to remove my cocoa before the cat kicks it off into my slippers.

Has anyone modified the Resmed Arcurve water tank in a way that makes filling easier? My thought is to make a 1/2" hole in the top of the tank to allow filling via a funnel. The new hole in the water tank could then be plugged with a rubber stopper. This would eliminate the need for removing the tank and opening the lid for filling and then sliding the tank back into position.

I was going to try this only put a bulkkhead connector with a cap instead of a plug but I never found a bulkhead connector like I wanted. I think the best solution is something similar to the one pictured in the thread.

Unfortunately, I think that is too complicated for most and it has many points of failure.

Refilling the tank without dumping the water is fine if one uses distilled water.

But, if one uses tap water, it will dramatically increase the mineral buildup. I use tap water, dump and refill every night, mineral build up isn't a problem.

From the picture, the additional reservoir acts as a very inefficient passover humidifier once the water level drops below the height of the lower tube.

A better design choice places the lower tube just above the level of the metal plate of the OEM tank.

[edit] I did this setup and the placement of tubes is very limited. To have a good seal, you need a flat surface of the outside and also room for the tube on the inside. There is a lot of unused water in the add on tank since it’s just gravity fed, but the extras water above the lower tube adds enough to last through the night.

The solution suggested by Deborah K seems very elegant. It works like a bird water feeder.

For the original design I do have some armchair tinkering suggestions ( given that I do not have the said tank).

If you decide to make a second one, don't limit the placement of the tubes to the curved right side of the OEM tank.

Instead you can place them at the rectangular back plate opposite the fill line plate.

Based on the images below, it meets your criteria of vertical flat outer surface without overlapping plastic getting in the way.

The front fill line plate also looks flat. But it has a slight inward incline so it's probably harder to use that surface.

The same way that those water coolers with the five gallon bottles work - air pressure.

That might be a more elegant solution then as long as it could be made stable.

For anyone who's familiar with the SoClean, the humidifier cover for that has a built-in penetration with a tube that sits below the max fill line already in place. I think that cover with an "animal feeder" type bottle would work perfect.

except, everytime you turn the machine on, the increased pressure inside the tank would push air up into the animal waterer bottle, and then when you turn the machine off, the pressure would force a bunch of water out of the sealed water.

I wouldn't think pressurized air could get into the external waterer bottle due to the fact that the hose would be under the water level in the main chamber?

Try it, report back, you'll either discover why nobody has done it before, or you'll invent something.
