My Airfit P10 nose pillows slip off

Post by perfstud07 » Fri Jan 21, 2022 6:37 am

Hello everyone

I have a Resmed S9 and Airfit P10 and use an ergonomic pillow that has a 'valley' to help stabilize my head. At some point at night I toss and turn and the nose pillows get loose. Since they're no longer airtight they start blowing and whistling, waking my partner up.

I've had the cpap machine and Airfit P10 for just under a year, so they're all pretty new.

I was wondering if a good alternative would be the Airfit N20? Or should I go with something more involved?

thank you!

Is the strap on your p10 the original strap?

If it is it likely doesn't have the elasticity to keep it tight. Replace it.

Newer P10 straps have a built in clip that gives the wearer more control over the tightness.

If you like the P10’s it may simply be you need a new strap. My P10 straps stretch out after about 3 months. I have spares and rotate in a new one, then take the one stretched out and wash it with the delicates, run it through the dryer, and can typically use it for another 3 months. After a few cycles it eventually needs to be thrown out, but for me at least washing/drying them gets more life out of them.

As Dog Slobber said the new straps have a clip on the side that allows you to tighten them (vs the original clips that required a degree in engineering to use). I have one of those and it worked well when I tried it, but I have not used it for an extended time as yet.

You can check Amazon and there are some knock-off P10 straps being sold, but I have not tried them but others may want to chime in.

If you decide to buy the newer P10 headgear with the clip, buy the AirFit N30 headgear instead.

The two are the same.

This way you avoid the possibility of receiving old stock of P10 headgear without the clip.

Also make sure you don't accidently order the headgear for the AirFit N30i. It's not compatible with the P10.

Airfit P10
You are getting some good advice about the headgear. Also, find your mask on youtube and carefully watch three or four videos about sizing and adjusting.

Be very careful. Mostly Made in China trash. Even the ones they claim to be Resmed straps are not.
Others claim to be Resmed compatible or replacement equal in quality. They are not.

Good luck.

to add to the replies you're getting, did you know that putting the p10 head strap in with your laundry and dryer can shrink the strap back down a bit?

you might want to put it in a laundry bag first.

good luck!

thanks for this. i knew there was a replacement, but couldn't remember the model number. i switched via dogslobber's recommendation. but i did so much cutting and hacking on it that i really need to replace it.

You asked about the N20. Although I prefer the P10 ( and the N30 ) I also have an N20. It has much more substantial headgear than the P10/N30 ( too much for my minimalist tastes ), so it might stay in place better for you than the P10.

For me the N20 is pretty comfortable, doesn't leak and the headgear holds the cushion very securely. Only negatives for me is that there is no diffuser on the mask elbow, so the exhaust can blow on your partner. It's quiet unless the vented air hits a pillow or something, and then it can be noisy. If you side-sleep then the magnetic mask buttons can sometimes press against your face and be disturbing. The cushion rests against the bridge of your nose -- not an issue for me but for some it is. I use this mask as an alternative if I need a break from a nasal pillow or nasal cradle.
Mask: alternate between P10 and N30; Vitera / F20 if allergies
Machine: AirSense 10 Autoset / AirMini

I came, I saw, I dozed off...

I asked my DME for the new, adjustable p10 strap.
They value my business, so they got it for me.

They are now included in all the new P10 mask packages. Just got one the other day and they are promoting the new adjustable strap right on the package now. That's what cpap.com has now because that's where I got the new P10 package.

I bought three several days ago from cpap.com. When they got here yesterday all three were the new style.
So there you go. https://www.cpap.com/ - for all your P10 head gear needs. :D

Yes, I agree, your P10 issue likely relates to loose headgear. The new P10s do have new headgear with an adjustable strap.

I ordered an extra from thecpapshop.com just yesterday for $11.50.

By the way, I sleep on my side and stomach but have never had the pillows leak or disengage. BUT I have a large head, so the headgear is not a problem for me. Just something to think about.

Another thought: When deciding which size pillow to use, I was told to use the LARGEST pillow that would work for me. This ensures a snug and leak-free fit. Could it be you are using the wrong size pillow?

I can hardly wait until my hair has grown out enough to cover the grooves in my scalp.
I understand that they were always there, but seeing them is disturbing.
