i slept from 11 to 6, with no awakenings! then stayed in bed and "napped" until 8.
I would be Superwoman every day if I could sleep like that.

Why not use 4-inch blocks under the head of your bed?
the answer is, as everyone here knows, i'm C-H-E-A-P.

not to mention lazy. i have the wine boxes to hand. i'd have to go out and get the blocks!

and i'm hoping like hell that i can continue to sleep like that. but it may turn out to be just a fluke.

will update here in a few days.

Wasting resources is not logical.
Granny is correct.

prop up my mattress. it's four inches higher.
Might need a few pillows between your knees and butt to keep from gradually sliding the mattress.

That's what happens when I try sleeping with my pillow wedge.

But my wedge is 10 inches high...
Hmm maybe I should be trying a lower wedge.

Anyways YMMV and good luck on the attempt.

Granny is right about the blocks and you don't have to go out, just go to Amazon https://www.amazon.com/bed-risers-4-inc ... ers+4+inch

iirc, that's pretty much what happened to me. maybe i could throw an anchor over the head of the bed?

did you miss the part where i said i was cheap?

the wine boxes were to hand, so i went with that.

besides, i'll be perpetually renewing the supply.

I have a friend who lets her small grandson sleep with her when he visits. She has the bed on blocks at a steep incline. Several times each night, she has to dig down under the covers and pull him back up.

been meaning to update but other things on my mind.

tuesday was RAINOUT night at the zonker stadium. got carried away with the humidity settings as i was dry. had a hell of a time drying things out then trying to get back to sleep. too disturbed to actually settle back into good sleep.

wednesday had the humidity under control, but still had broken sleep. for some inexplicable reason (well, *I* can't "explic" it!) woke up at 2am then multiple times before getting out of bed at 8.

tried biotine dry mouth gel last night, which helped the dry mouth a bit. my dry mouth has presented recently on the back and upper portion of mouth. i will use it again tonight with xylimelts to be fully covered.

will keep at it and see what i can find. it's not events waking me. i had zero events last night.

i'm hoping this doesn't come down to changing my eating habits. it's very hard for me to try to decide that the coffee (or wine. or food) that i ingest in the early afternoon will impact my sleep that night. i'm not saying i don't believe there is a connection. i just don't WANT there to be a connection!

Sometimes we just wake up and we don't know why and just can't easily get back to sleep.
Happened to me last night as well...woke up shortly after 4 AM (according to the machine a little over 4 hours of use) and I knew I would have trouble going back to sleep so I just got up. Feel like crap today simply from lack of enough sleep.

Can't say it was for sure discomfort or not that caused the wake up. Not really hurting anymore than usual.
What's sad...I even took a sleeping pill last night. It's supposed to help me sleep a bit longer but sometimes it just can't whip that old insomnia monster's ass.
Oh well...pretty good chance I will sleep better tonight....better for me means longer.

Sometimes crap happens or often crap happens.
This was one of those times that I woke up and was wide awake and actually at the moment thought it was a lot later than it was.

sorry about your rotten night of sleep! hope you got some of the good sleep last night. in one way, it's easier for me. i'm not suffering through any pain as you are. for me, it's discomfort. that damned left shoulder of mine. if it would just rest comfortably, i think the rest of my body would follow suit. it's not so bad on side sleeping. it's when i sleep prone. oh well.

This was one of those times that I woke up and was wide awake and actually at the moment thought it was a lot later than it was.

mine is a bit different. some people wake up and can't get back to sleep. this was my case before i retired. like you, i HATE getting up in the morning. particularly if there is an alarm clock involved which only happens now when i have to some place early. much like your upcoming surgery. when i was forced to wake up to an alarm clock for the stupid purpose of having to be at work at a set time, i would wake up in the night and couldn't get back to sleep because i knew i wasn't going to get enough sleep. just staring and staring at the stupid clock.

forum friend palerider said to me and to lots of others:"don't look at the clock!". well, duh, yeah. but i'm cursed with a fairly accurate time sense. if i wake up enough, i'm going to look. obviously, that didn't happen on that night i reported sleeping from 11 to 6.

nowadays, it's not a case of me waking enough to turn over. everyone does that. nor is it me waking up so fully that i can't get back to sleep.

it's the in between stage, the case of me "knowing" what time it is and checking to make sure. i'm hoping i can get past that by insuring i'm sleeping comfortably. and trying different tweaks to see what the result is. which is why i've decided to keep the journal.

i don't know if it's realistic to think i'm going to sleep the majority of my night's getting 7 hours sleep at a stretch. i wouldn't really mind waking at 3, which is pretty much what i'm used to. but then, i'd like to go back into some solid sleep to last until 8.

i know, i know. i shouldn't think of a specific time to wake up. i just don't want to wake up at 6 and start my day. it just wouldn't feel right somehow.

For those with shoulder problems, this is what i used while recovering from a serious shoulder injury. Without it sleep was a big issue as I could not comfortably sleep on either side.

No Z, it’s not cheap, but it did make a big difference for me while recovering. Something to consider.

I can't imagine not sliding onto the floor at least once a night--unless:
Corduroy pajamas, with matching bottom sheet, all cut cross-grain.
Of course, the stripes on your birthday suit will run sideways, too.
