Sometimes we just wake up and we don't know why and just can't easily get back to sleep.
Happened to me last night as well...woke up shortly after 4 AM (according to the machine a little over 4 hours of use) and I knew I would have trouble going back to sleep so I just got up. Feel like crap today simply from lack of enough sleep.
sorry about your rotten night of sleep! hope you got some of the good sleep last night. in one way, it's easier for me. i'm not suffering through any pain as you are. for me, it's discomfort. that damned left shoulder of mine. if it would just rest comfortably, i think the rest of my body would follow suit. it's not so bad on side sleeping. it's when i sleep prone. oh well.
This was one of those times that I woke up and was wide awake and actually at the moment thought it was a lot later than it was.
mine is a bit different. some people wake up and can't get back to sleep. this was my case before i retired. like you, i HATE getting up in the morning. particularly if there is an alarm clock involved which only happens now when i have to some place early. much like your upcoming surgery. when i was forced to wake up to an alarm clock for the stupid purpose of having to be at work at a set time, i would wake up in the night and couldn't get back to sleep because i knew i wasn't going to get enough sleep. just staring and staring at the stupid clock.
forum friend palerider said to me and to lots of others:"don't look at the clock!". well, duh, yeah. but i'm cursed with a fairly accurate time sense. if i wake up enough, i'm going to look. obviously, that didn't happen on that night i reported sleeping from 11 to 6.
nowadays, it's not a case of me waking enough to turn over. everyone does that. nor is it me waking up so fully that i can't get back to sleep.
it's the in between stage, the case of me "knowing" what time it is and checking to make sure. i'm hoping i can get past that by insuring i'm sleeping comfortably. and trying different tweaks to see what the result is. which is why i've decided to keep the journal.
i don't know if it's realistic to think i'm going to sleep the majority of my night's getting 7 hours sleep at a stretch. i wouldn't really mind waking at 3, which is pretty much what i'm used to. but then, i'd like to go back into some solid sleep to last until 8.
i know, i know. i shouldn't think of a specific time to wake up. i just don't want to wake up at 6 and start my day. it just wouldn't feel right somehow.
