Can you help me understand filters for ResMed Aircurve ASV?

Greetings. I am having a bit of trouble getting the correct replacement filters for my ResMed AirCurve ASV machine.

I was initially issued CPAPhero brand filters which were labelled "Standard filters fit the ResMed AirSense, AirCurve, AirStart, and S9 Series Machines"

They are the typical very thin filter with one side being slightly fiberglass looking and the other side slightly fuzzier.

My replacement filters that just came are AG Industries brand "disposable Ultragen CPAP Filter compatable with ResMed S9 and S10". The term "AirCurve: is NOT on the label.

Am I assuming correctly the the AirCurve is different than an S9/S10?

These filters are very different. They are approximately three time thicker at least and and you can almost see through them. They look like they are for big particle sizes only.

My supplier could not answer any of these questions.

Can you give me your thoughts? Also I know there is a hypoallergenic option for my machine as well

The S9, Airsense 10 and AirCurve 10 all take the same filters. There are different qualities. You get what you pay for. Since they just filter your room air, I guess it depends on how dirty your room air is.

Incorrect. The AirCurve models (as well as AirSense models) all use the same filter size as the S9 model.

The overall sizes are the same but what you are seeing as a difference is manufacturing difference that can be found with various after market manufacturers.

I have bought from various after market manufacturers (I call then generic and not name brand filters) and some look just like ResMed name brand filters and some were so far off I really questioned using them...but I did and they did fine.

You have to decide if you are comfortable using it or not. Technically it will work as in fitting.

I prefer the hypoallergenic grade, as my allergies can tell the difference.
My DME used to sell me the Resmed brand, with Resmed packaging.
Now they ziplock them bulk with no label, but they look and work the same.

All very helpful. My old Respironics recalled ASV machine used very robust flat, probably hypoallergenic filters + a foam large particle filter. These filters for the ResMed look paltry by comparison. Since my old Respironics filters used to be quite dirty each month (blackish), I have to assume then that I might benefit from the better hypoallergenic filters. I will contact my supplier and see if they will be covered my Medicare. If not, I may buy from our "sister".

People, and indeed companies, that don't bother to get terminology correct to avoid confusing people call the air10 lines of machines "A10" which is incorrect, nowhere does Resmed *EVER* use the term "S10".
Sounds like your original filters were hypoallergenic, and the new ones are regular. regular filters are thicker, but a much coarser weave.

Is there a certain way they should be used (i.e., the shiny side toward the machine and fuzzier side toward the outside or opposite)?

Probably not--but I would put the fuzzy side facing outward.
It just "feels" right.

If I can feel any difference in the sides of the filters I always put the fuzzy side out so the air goes through it first.
Logic tells me that fuzzy picks up more dust than sleek or shiny or slick.
