Sticky :::: Attachment quota exceeded

Post by dataq1 » Sat Dec 25, 2021 4:11 pm

What is the attachment quota for this board?
Is the quota applied per poster or is it an total of all posters (limited by server space)?

The board does have a total attachment maximum, though I don't know what it's set to.

We had this problem about a year and a half ago.

Me thinks its the size of the attachment. The message should tell you the size limit.

The attachment limit is 1MB, but that's not what the OP is experiencing.

I just tried to post a 47KB graphic and got a: Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached. error.

Quoting Pugsy from the other thread. Although, this issue is above her pay-grade, she's likely the best one to escalate the problem to the Admin's then IT.

Sorry folks.
That is beyond my scope of powers.
I think that maybe we probably need to maybe go into our own scope of attachments and do some house cleaning.
I believe that is probably something in the IT powers that be section....

when this problem reared it's head, i stopped doing attachments and started using a hosting site. i've found imgur.com to be very good and very free.
people say i'm self absorbed.

Forum members have once again uploaded so many attachments the max capacity has been reached.
No one will be able to attach files until/unless the capacity for the forum software piggy bank for attachment file size is increased or a whole bunch of people go in and remove old attachments.

All I can do is send Carolyn a note and she has to contact IT.

I can't even go into the forum piggy bank of files people have upload/attached and delete them to open up some space.
All we can do is delete our old uploaded images from each of us.
Members can do that by going to their individual profile and the "manage attachment" section and delete them.

So people will have to use imgur or something similar and host their images elsewhere until this gets resolved.

Sorry.

I will send Carolyn a note but it's the holidays...don't expect a prompt resolution.

I am making this thread a sticky for now since I expect to see this question a lot and maybe people will look and see the topic before posting the problem/question.

Once the issue gets resolved I will unsticky it.

Zonker does indeed use imgur now for his cuties. When this happened the last time he decided to not use the forum attachment feature anymore and moved all his gifs to imgur. It was a lot of work but he got it done.

If I had the powers to remove the really old attachments I could do that but the only ones I have the powers to clean out from the forum storage are my own but I don't know if it would help all that much but I could try. I don't use that feature very often. Most of the images I use are hosted on imgur. I doubt I have 2 dozen in my attachments storage.
My personal opinion is that images in posts that are over a year old aren't really all that critical to see anyway.

We don't need really need images or stuff in those old posts anyway.

So I just now went in and deleted a bunch of old files...

Then I tried to do the attachment thing again and this time it let me and didn't tell me that the forum max had been met..
so if you other guys can do the same....people can post again for a short period of time and include attachments.

indeed. particularly attachments of oscar charts that are years old.

is there an easy way for you to filter through those old posts and clean them up?

No, not really. Even if I can go in and manually delete attached images from the posts all that does is remove them from the post itself and doesn't remove the actual file that is stored on the cpap.com forum software storage place.
I don't have access to that storage area. If I did have access then I could easily see the date posted and simply remove the old stuff. The powers I have are limited and I don't have access to the storage area what we see when we attach a file....except in my own personal attachment storage area.
I don't have access to anyone else's storage at all. Probably involves powers above my pay grade.

So I could clean them up which would be a lot of work in finding the posts anyway...but even if I cleaned them up it wouldn't change the existing problem which is the storage area for uploads from people.

If I had a load of attachments, I'd dive right in and fix them.
Unfortunately, I have not been very productive in that department.
Bad froggie?
