Forgot my machine

Is there an alternative to CPAP? I'm out of town and forgot my machine. Slept last night without it and my throat has been killing me!

Your throat may be due to GERD (acid reflux) because I'm not sure how untreated apnea would result in that. See if you can find a way (recliner?) to sleep more upright tonight which should help with apnea, if not GERD.

I know my throat is dry if I sleep without the CPAP machine. I have become very used to the humidity it provides. Perhaps a room humidifier might help? I've not tried that myself.

That's my nightmare scenario when I travel - losing or forgetting the machine or one of the components. I'd be on Craigslist looking to buy any machine of any type at almost any price if I did.

I couldn't agree more... and a new unused mask and hose.
IF possible buy the same make/model you already have so not only will you have spare parts but the filters and other things you already have will fit your forgotten cpap AND you will know how it works.

Hope you're not in the compliance period cuz this could be a setback for you if they are not understanding.

fwiw - treated osa does help the memory.

Being in your situation might literally kill me. Try to totally avoid backsleeping. I second the suggestion to buy any machine/mask you can find on craigslist.com.

You've been a member for 16 years, made 19 thousand posts, and don't understand how untreated obstructive apnea can cause reflux???

I had to re-read it as I got that impression the first time. I think she meant that she didn't think that the sleep apnea by itself would cause the sore throat, so more likely that it as caused by gerd.
