Septoplasty Post Op - Events

Post by SleepyPrince » Thu Dec 16, 2021 8:41 am

Hello Folks,

I had the septoplasty and turbinate reduction 10 days back and finally able to breathe through both my nostrils freely. I did not use CPAP for a week since my nose was fully clogged and my surgeon suggested the same.

Last night was the first time I used after my op and I could not see any events. I usually get 3-4 AHI and I had a untreated apnea of 67 AHI.

I'm surprised and shocked at the same time. Can the machine behave oddly ? or is it really correct? I'm waiting to try it out tonight and see.

After the surgery I'm not able to use it for the full night, so had to decrease my pressure to min 15 from 20.

One partial night cannot be expected to be representative.
More nights, and more time will eventually show a pattern.
Be patient.
Congratulations on getting the honker fixed.

I feel sure that the machine plus Oscar are showing the correct information. As chunkyfrog says, let's see what the longer-term picture looks like.

You have very heavy flow limitations, and they are plastering the pressure at your max. I imagine the FLs will abate as your nose continues to heal.

If the FLs are indeed caused by swelling in your nose, higher pressures won't be able to change them. I'd defer to others with more expertise, but if you have another night or two with a very low AHI, you might consider dropping your max some. But let's see how things go before you change anything.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Thank you for the replies. I reduced my max from 20 to 15 last night. I will give it a couple of days and see how it goes.
