Terrific mouth tape

Post by Deborah K. » Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:45 pm

 I have just recently started mouth taping. After a lot of research, I found and ordered one that appealed to me. Here it is:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BPL5G2C?re ... tails&th=1

I bought this small pack as I was not sure I would tolerate mouth taping and did not know if I liked this particular one. In fact, I like it a lot. It is plenty sticky, but easily can be removed, put back, and even re-used again. It is really comfortable to use, does not leave any residue, and does not irritate the skin or lips at all. I can't imagine trying another type. I have dry skin and lips that chap easily, but I am using this with no lip balm or anything, and my lips are fine. Frankly, I am shocked, as my skin tends to react poorly to many, many things. I will order the 5-yard pack next, now that I know I like it. So, there you have it, a positive review for a mouth tape.

p.s. I should mention that one layer helped with leaks, but not enough. So I put one layer on then slap a second layer on top. Now it works very well. It sounds expensive to do this, but since you can easily use the same tape for days in a row, it's actually pretty cheap.

Thanks for the review! Do you need the second layer because you can breathe through a single layer? Or is it because a single layer comes unstuck here and there? Just curious.

I was breathing through the single layer. I think I may still breathe a little through the two layers, but my leak reports have improved enough that I am happy. I no longer get the dreaded frowny face on my Resmed.

I just realized a good side effect of mouth taping. I no longer have dry mouth! I used to use Xylimelts, but forgot to use them a few times when I taped at night, and my mouth was not dry. Yay! :)

I started mouth taping about 10 days ago and my lips are starting to get irritated. I have been using Cover Roll 2" tape. It does a great job at preventing mouth leaks, but can be a bit painful pulling off in the morning. I am wondering if putting a single layer of this silicone tape that Deborah discovered over my lips, and a layer of Cover Roll over it would do the trick. Anyone try something like this?

The MedVance stuff I use also comes in a 2-inch roll. Here's a link

The 2-inch version seems thicker. I don't have to double with it, so it is not more expensive to use.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I've just started taping. My 3M tape is awful! It rips my lips.

Turn your lips in slightly and then apply the tape.

These are the instructions on the Somnifix mouth tape strips. It also helps with other types of tape.

Make sure you peel "over" your face instead of "out" from your face. (I hope that makes sense) If you pull out, away from your face, you're more likely to irritate.

I also use Durable Barrier Cream, only takes a small amount, on the taped areas:

Good advice!

Last night I did the double tape test, as I suggested in my previous post on this thread. I have some Somnifix still in the house, which I have tried and find that it gentle on the lips, but it just doesn't cover enough surface area and comes off in the night. So, I applied Somnifix on my lips, and used 2" Micropore tape to secure it. This morning I was able to pull the Micropore off without any issues on my lips. It just came right off. While this seems like it would get expensive quickly, I think I can use the same piece of Somnifix for several nights, not really caring about how sticky it is night after night, since the Micropore will just secure it in place. I think I may be on to something. I don't have the Medvance that Deborah originally posted, but I may give that a shot too.

Look on Amazon for generic slip strips. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sleep+strips ... nb_sb_noss

They work about as well as Somnifix and are much cheaper.
