CPAP supplies

Post by acctingman » Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:57 pm

Hello

Question for folks here. When you order your CPAP supplies do you find a local business or do you order online? I just recently switched insurances and my current supplier doesn't accept my new insurance.

When this happens to the rest of us, we ask our insurance for their list of network
and preferred providers. We then contact those, (beginning with preferred),
to determine availability of our desired items.
It is also wise to compare out of pocket cost vs online prices.

Compare prices with our hosts at CPAP.com because the out of pocket may be less. I also have been using Amazon for supplies. The prices are decent and no dithering with insurance, no prescription needed.

Alternately if you do find you want to file your insurance and let them pay their portion there are a few online cpap suppliers who will file your insurance for you IF they happen to be in the network with your new insurance.
A lot depends on your insurance and who they have in network contracts with.

So you do have some options. Do the math...factor in any deductibles if you have any as well as what I call the "hassle factor". I have found that with some items I can buy from Amazon or other places and end up paying less or same as my copay using insurance and not having to deal with the local DME is priceless to me.
I can buy a new water chamber from Amazon and it costs me 2 bucks more than my copay if I used my insurance...duh...it costs me more than 2 bucks to drive to the DME not to mention it's just so nice to have it delivered and I don't have to get out.

I haven't been able to find an online supplier who files insurance that is in my insurance network. I have a weird insurance but since I don't really use a DME all that often...not worth changing just to get an occasional cpap something or other.
Your insurance might be better and you really want to use your insurance and it might be worth it to you to find an online supplier that you can work with.

We have good insurance coverage for our supplies, but I have found it easier to just purchase items on eBay, Amazon, and the forum sponsor cpap.com. When I find something on sale, I stock up on it and I have it hand when it is needed.
