I don't know if it somehow creates a momentary vacuum
It does not do that. To create a 'vacuum', it would have to violate the laws of physics, since it's a turbine it would still blow air, (just not nearly as well) even if the motor were running in reverse. That's the difference in that and a plain 'fan'.

My only concern about the Resmed is what will happen in a power failure.
Pick out one of the cheaper Power Off alarms - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=power+off+al ... doa-p_1_13

I have one similar to this - https://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Control ... 122&sr=8-3 It lights up the bedroom well. It's not too loud to use in a hotel room.

Hadn't thought about the shape of the blades in there. You're right, that would seem to preclude a vacuum. Perhaps the blower stops much faster than I'm used to with the Dreamstation, so the sudden loss of pressure seem like a relative vacuum.

Good idea. Maybe I can partner that with an uninterruptible power supply, so I have some time to shut down my bipap after the alarm wakes me up. I'd think one would wake up in a real start to wake up not breathing and an alarm going off. My guess is that with the electronics involved I'll need a UPS that puts out a true sine wave rather than the modified square wave most of them do.

Honestly, when my power has gone off it wakes me right up.
Instead of a UPS consider a battery and a DC cord for your cpap. Who wants an alarm to wake you just cuz the power went off? What is there to do? Sleep? Esp. when its only a blip in the power. I sleep right thru them now that I have a battery to power my cpap.

I have a UPS. I disabled the audible alert. We have frequent thunderstorms during the summer, which brings about a decent amount of power outages. I can get a decent amount of time with it (a few hours)... only once has the power outage exceeded the battery life.

I have several UPSs, I use them for my TV and cable box oh and the computers. Those are things I use while awake and prevents those momentary power glitches. I understand how a UPS will help it just won't help during an extended outage like a hurricane, snow storm, or power outage due to a drunk driver.

The blower in the Resmed is faster at responding, due to it's lower inertia, though I'm having trouble seeing how it'd be more than a fraction of a second difference.

I think you are overly concerned. Personally, I would go the cheaper, simpler route to start with. Get the inexpensive power-off alarm. See what happens the first time your power goes out. If you encounter a big problem, then look into an uninterruptible power supply. No need to try to hit a grand slam the first time up. More games are won with walk-off singles.

Got a call from my pulmonologist that my APAP is in: a ResVent iBreeze. I had previously told them that if they couldn't get an AS10/AS11, not to order it. So I guess they're stuck with it. Looks like the FDA gave them EUA due to the supply shortage. ResVent has been marketed internationally for a while it looks like. No clue where they're manufactured (didn't dig into it that far).

I'd been working with one local DME. Supposedly I'm on a wait-list.

My PC doc sent in an order for a replacement CPAP to their affiliated DME. I got a call from them yesterday to update my insurance (it changed this year) because they were trying to bill and it was being rejected. I have heard nothing from them until this point. Asked what they were supplying and they indicated a "Luna" CPAP. I said do not process this until someone contacts me and provides me the details, as I am not familar with this device. First off, that sets me off on the wrong foot because they should have contacted me first. Secondly, I know nothing of this Luna--aside from what I've read here.

This just turns me off to this DME because it seems indicative of typical crappy DME behavior.

I have an AirMini that I've been using and I think I'd rather wait for a proven machine like a ResMed.

it was only approved by the FDA under an EUA
[s]Do you have a link for this EUA?[/s]

Strike that, I should google first. https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/cor ... ories-euas

If I'm reading this right, the EUA is only for use of these devices during the COVID-19 PHE and for emergency ventilation in a healthcare setting, not for treating apneas. Maybe I'm wrong on that.

No announcement or "decree" can change the fact that RESMED is the brand you want.
And Autoset is the model. Whether it is an Airsense 10 or 11 depends entirely on
your budget, and how long you are willing to wait.
Stick to your guns--your health is important.

Our hosts at CPAP.com have them in stock. The price is about 30% more than it was before the recall of Philips machines. But their website says "order ships today if placed by 4 p.m. PST." Now, maybe you'll get a different story if you actually order one from there, but this at least suggests that they are in stock.
I called the 800 number for CPAP.com today and confirmed that they have stock in hand (ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset). Placed my order and was notified of shipment a short time later.

My only concern about the Resmed is what will happen in a power failure. When turned off, it seems to shut down the airflow much faster than the my DS1 did, and when it shuts down my airway slams shut--even when I'm awake and expecting it it's hard to control. I don't know if it somehow creates a momentary vacuum or if it just shuts down faster than the valve in my mask can open, but I'm concerned if the power fails while I'm in a deep sleep my airway will slam shut, and I'll wake up really gagging.
I know the feeling you are describing. The one part of the morning I don't like it turning off my ResMed. If I take it off before turning it off I hate the sound of the air blowing, and if I turn it off while the mask is still on my face it does FEEL like a sort of suction. I know it's really NOT suction, but it feels like that torture device they tried to hook up to Mike Ignatowski in Monsters, Inc. And I wear a nasal cradle mask, so all I have to do is open my mouth to get air.

I will say that when the electricity has gone off in the middle of the night, that discomfort woke me EVERY time.

You are not ever going to suffocate in a CPAP mask, even if it feels like it. Full face masks have anti-asphyxiation valves. I examined mine to understand how it works, and if there's no pressure from the CPAP it CAN'T close. In a nasal mask all you have to do is open your mouth.
