ClimateLine heated hose issues with AirCurve 10 Vauto?

Post by TabraizShamsi » Wed Dec 01, 2021 4:38 am

I've been having issues with rainout while using my new month old AirCurve and the heated ClimateLine hose. Either something is wrong with my machine or the hose.

When I first started using my new machine I had both the hose and the humidifier set to Auto but the hose didn't seem like it was warming up. It didn't feel warm to the touch after running for a little while nor did it prevent moisture build up in the hose. I tired manually setting the hose temp, starting at 83 and working my way up to 86 (maxed out) last night.

Last night was the worst EVER! I woke at 4am with water in my nose and when I rolled over I could actually hear water gurgling in my hose. Not good! I pulled my mask off and went back to sleep for an hour or so. When I got up I took a look at my hose and, sure enough, it was full of water at the low point of the hose, like the trap in a sink drain.

With the cooler temps at night it has been cooler in the bedroom (we leave a window open) and I know that this would lead to more condensation in the hose, if it weren't heated.

When I plug the ClimateLine hose into the machine I do get a notice that the hose has been recognized and of course I'm able to adjust temps when the hose is ID'ed.

I do have another brand new hose to try and I'll do that today. I also plan on using my multimeter to check for continuity in the suspect hose. It has three connection points where it gets power from the machine but I don't know what kind of numbers I should see nor do I know what connects to what. I suppose I'll Ohm it out, as they say, and compare it to the brand new hose that I have.

There must be some kind of sensor in the hose right? That would explain the three connection points since a simple heater circuit would only need two. If the heater circuit is open that would explain why the hose isn't heating but if that circuit was open would the machine still recognize the hose when I initially connect the thing?

I could also check the connections on the machine for power but I suspect that power is only supplied to those connections when the machine senses that a ClimateLine hose is connected. That complicates troubleshooting.

Advice?

What is the ambient bedroom temperature? Are you like me and prefer a really cold bedroom?

Humidity setting still on auto?

What mask are you using?

To check for hose air temps being what they are supposed to be...check the temperature of the air itself after the machine has been on for about 15 minutes. Digital cooking thermometer works as long as it will go down to what the hose air temp should be. Let it blow for about 15 minutes and check for hose air temp at the end of the heated hose so you will need to remove the mask.

Heated hose failures are not common but they can happen and fail despite the machine giving the appearance that all is well with the hose.

I would check both the old and new hose with the digital thermometer.....just in case there is a problem in the machine itself heating the air.

Interesting post TabriazShamsi. Not sure how I feel about it. I started reading and it sure seemed familiar to me. It didn't take long before it hit me and I understood why, I wrote it!

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Should I feel flattered? Duuno, just feels weird to me.

Did you actually use a multimeter to check your hose as I did? Do you also have a brand new hose that you can use in place of the old one?

Carry on, I guess...

I noticed this as well when I approved the first post but copying some else's post.....while it does raise red flags it doesn't necessarily point to something nefarious.
There is the very remote chance that someone else in the world has had the same experience as you had and chose to copy your post. Now I do realize how remote that chance actually is...I wasn't born yesterday.

The OP has an IP address in India. We get a LOT of spam or attempted spammers from India and these spammers are wise to the filters we have in place for overt first time posts containing spam links. So they make some sort of benign post or copy someone else's post to get their foot in the door and then once they get approved to post they come back with the real spam.
I am fully aware of this tactic and while I am 99.9% sure that is what is going on here....I have no real proof....yet.

So I approve the post....for now anyway...and sit back and watch and wait and think about what just happened.
I watch log in dates and times and I watch signature lines for new accounts because often what the spammers do once a post is approved is they go back in and edit their signature lines and add in spam links.
I am aware of spammers dirty tricks...and I really feel like this is what is going on here....but without real proof I am hesitant to take action.
Sometimes I just think about it for a bit and then decide to go with my gut feeling and ban the user and remove their post but they will just come back under a new account with another benign post.

The spam war....it's ongoing.

If you guys see something in a post where the poster has edited their post to include spam (after the post was approved) or added a spam link to their signature....Please go ahead and flag the post as spam and when you flag it that lets me know I might have missed one. I don't get a notice when someone edits a post or signature line and while I try to remember the new account IDs that smell spammy....I can't always remember all of them.

In the meantime for this dude....I need to think on it a bit more but don't be surprised if the entire thread goes poof.
and disappears.

I appreciate your diligence Pugsy!

BTW, there is a person with this name.

Tabraiz Shamsi (born 18 February 1990) is a South African cricketer.
