Scented Lip Balm with CPAP Mask: New CPAP User, Advice Appreciated!

Post by bkeberl » Sat Nov 27, 2021 8:11 am

Good Morning,

My name is Brandon, and I just got my CPAP (ResMed S11 with F20 full face mask) about 2 weeks ago. While not terrible, I don’t really like the “new plastic” smell of my mask. To make the experience more enjoyable as I get accustomed to [CPAP] therapy, I was considering possibly rubbing a small amount of scented lip balm on the inside of my mask, to give it a slight fragrance while I sleep.

I have read of the dangers of essential oils, and have NO intentions of using them, but I thought lip balm might be okay? This technique (i.e., scented lip balm applied to mask) has been used often in pediatric sedation, so I would think it would also be safe in my situation.

Advice and input is appreciated.

Have a great day!

Check the ingredients carefully for any petroleum products.
Petroleum products are a no-no. They can degrade the silicone for one thing and another is you don't want to run the risk of inhaling it. Google "lipid pneumonia".

Aromatherapy, like pur-sleep, sold by cpap.com., and used
according to directions, is safe and effective.
Note: placement OUTSIDE the air intake reduces any risk to acceptable levels.
Lip balm, my foot--a desperate, but dangerous act-
-unless the product has NO petroleum, and is applied sparingly.
The only off-label application I have used lip balm for
was lubing the throttle on my motorcycle when it stuck wide open in a rainstorm.
Going full speed on wet road--bad, very bad.
The bullfrog had tuned the engine to go crazy fast--but only when asked.
