I got diagnosed with Mild OSA. Watchpat One from Lofta. Is it a good idea to just buy the Airsense 10 and mask from them

Should I just use my dad's recalled Philips dreamstation?!
Is he not using it? If not, what is he using?

How old is your dad's recalled machine? How many machine hours?
My dad said he fully used it a few times. He didn't use it much. Maybe for a few weeks and he said he usually took it off in the middle of the night. He isn't using it because it pissed him off lol. He said he feels fine without it. He snores like crazy and has moderate or severe apnea I forgot.

It's dusty as hell though since it's been sitting there.

Sorry I really am. I'm so overwhelmed and stressed. I don't know what to do about buying a cpap to even get treatment! Lofta is saying $960 for mask and airsense10 auto. That's a lot of money! What if the CPAP doesn't help my symptoms?! I wish my ENTs home study diagnosed me so I could go through insurance. Sorry. I'm anxious and depressed. No excuse... I know
it's okay. we'll say no more about it.

that's really not a bad price lofta is quoting. there is so much hullabaloo regarding the philips recall that resmed machine prices are spiking. but i can understand why you wouldn't want to spend that amount of money. i'm known to be a bit of a tightwad myself.

you could send a private message to forum member lsat. he often has gently used machines for sale for much less than a brand new one. other forum members have dealt with him and have nothing bad to say about the experience.

or you can explore these options-

https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/htm ... hines.html

https://shop.aeroflowsleep.com/blog/how ... e-for-free

there is no guarantee that all of your problems boil down to just sleep apnea. in the end, what a cpap machine does is open up your airway to make it easier to breath while asleep. in fact, it's right in the name.

Continuous
Positive
Airway
Pressure

that's simply all it does. there could still be problems unrelated to sleep apnea that can disrupt sleep. but i strongly urge you to try cpap just to be sure.

i'm with chicago granny on the philips machine you can use. so i hope you answered her questions.

before i go, please take a minute when you read these responses. stop and reflect on them. i know that's hard for you to do right now. but take the time to let what people are saying soak in.

good luck!
Glad you say the Lofta price isn't bad. I'm considering buying the Resmed with mask this Friday when I get paid. Although the Lofta lady is telling me since they are limited stock I should buy 1 ASAP to get a cpap within days and not weeks... Ah well. I will wait till Friday.
I'll check on those links too. What are the downsides and dangers of buying a used cpap? Sounds like it could be unsanitary?
And I agree. I doubt all my problems boil down to sleep apnea. But I'm telling you the last few years my depression and physical symptoms have never been this bad. I used to never experience fatigue and anhedonia like I do now. Life is colorless and I wake up feeling wrecked and unrested. I find it hard to think clearly. I'm not doing well and I can't think and speak clearly all the time...
I replied to Chicago Granny. I will reflect more before I comment.

THANK YOU

yeah, supply chains are f'ed up all over.she may not be just trying to close a sale on it.

no dangers to buying second hand. if this were true, we on the forum would know about it and caution people against it. i don't think any reputable seller is, in this time of covid, going to risk selling something unsanitary. particularly forum member lsat. but this is entirely up to you. if you feel more comfortable with new, then new it is.

the reason granny wants to know the age of the machine is, the debacle with philips and "foamgate" may be overplayed. granny has some links showing how the "offgassing" would have happened earlier rather than later. i wish i had those links to hand. anyway, do you know how long he's had the machine?

whatever you decide, DO come back and let us know!

I'll most likely just buy it new. I'm trying right now to see if insurance will cover any of it first. But good to know lofta isn't trying to rush me.
And I believe my dad has had the dreamstation for almost 2 or so years now. But not used very often.

i BELIEVE that the articles granny has shows that it's possible that there aren't any harmful effects after that amount of time.

but if you go ahead with new, that's cool. was just thinking free is better as long as you don't mind using his.

tell you what. this is gonna sound crazy after all the fuss i've made about multiple threads but, when you get whatever machine it is you end up with, come in and start a new thread. title it some thing like "dylan's therapy thread" and we can proceed from there.

sound okay?

Hello. Sorry for the delay in my response. I have been busy with work.
Im highly considering using my dad's Dreamstation. It is free and it's in my possession lol. I'm just afraid of causing harm to myself with these cancer particles I keep hearing with the foam. I appreciate you offering support. I will make a new thread once I get the Dreamstation set up. Any info on if it's safe, Granny? (user)

Interesting. If they dissapate so fast why is it a concern?
I'm going to read the whole article. But this is basically saying the dreamstation isn't much of a risk if any?

Okay so my dad's dreamstation was used for like a month or so. But it's mainly been collecting dust on a shelf. We love in a humid area of the USA. Southern Missouri. Not so much in winter but yeah it gets humid outside. But we have always had central AC so inside isn't as humid.

Im going to look up some guides online on how to clean the dreamstation before I use it.

Are you speaking figuratively or literally?

Has it been stored in its case?

many folk see the word "cancer" and go into a tailspin. philips doesn't really have any choice but to do the recall.

not that i'm wagging a finger at anyone. we each make our own choices in life.

i have a philips machine on the recall list. i'm not using it. but i am a privileged white man with money. i was already using a resmed and sort of comparing the two. i'm now using the resmed and waiting for whatever they decide to do with my recalled machine.

i recognize that not everyone is in my position, though.

Well I'll just use the damn Philips and mess with the settings and see if I feel better. I need to clean the dust off of it and all that.
If I were you I'd use the Resmed too. I am a white man too (idk about privileged) and I can afford to buy a cpap out of pocket but I don't want to spend $1k+ lol. I don't have that much money I can risk wasting it if the CPAP doesn't help me yknow?
