DreamStation2

Post by cpapsleep » Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:36 am

I have been using the DreamStation 2 for a week. Getting the settings updated and learning how to use the device was simple. I am sleeping better and my numbers are better.

Did you get this machine as a replacement in Philips' Foamgate? Which machine were you using before this one?

Been using the DS2 for about a week. DS1 prior since about March 2020. The DS2 pulled in the settings of the DS1 when I powered it on. The DS2 seems quieter than the DS1. The DS1 when I turned it on initially at night tended to 'blow out' the full face mask sides and then would settle back. The DS2 does not do this. Neither the DS1 or DS2 are set with a ramp start. I've had good AHI numbers with the DS1, so I never felt the need to analyze with OSCAR. The DS2 with the same settings as I had with the DS1 seems to be yielding slightly lower AHI's, so unless something changes significantly, likely don't need OSCAR. I will put an SD card in sometime so I'll have a data record if OSCAR ever is compatible. I still don't like the physical design, but it is what is and as long as it provides the therapy well, that's what counts I guess. I did like the water tray of the DS1 better than that of the DS2 with it's latching cover which I've seen reports of the hook tabs on the cover rear snapping off. Wife doesn't like the shiny black..... dust shows up too easy   .

The old DS1 had long dissipated any off gassing that may have been a health issue and I had never detected any black foam or similar in the air circuit. I may have continued using the DS1 and kept the DS2 as a backup if DreamMapper hadn't installed the DS2 itself as the primary machine when accessed via the internet (Win7 PC) which I do first thing in the morning daily.

My DME knows that I have the DS2 (not sure if Philips/Respironics notified them?). I'm not sure when they'll ship the next round of supplies which includes filters for the new DS2, so I found a CPAP supplier that had DS2 fine filters at a good price and bought a bunch to last a while. Don't know if it's OK to link a retailer, but it may help someone getting started with the DS2. I did receive genuine OEM filters and not knock offs. They were shipped pretty quick.

I got this as a replacement. It seems to do a good job. However, its' not OSCAR compatible.

The DreamStation 2 was a replacement for the recalled DreamStation.

Awaiting my DS-2 to replace my 4.9 year old DS1.
Although I can't "prove" it, my suspicion is that any out-gassing from the foam has occurred already, so I'm not especially concerned there. (also stayed away from ozone generators)
I've never observed any black particles (indicative of foam breakdown) but I did create a little hood on the discharge tube to direct the flow of the pump discharge more towards the water rather than above the water,
Going forward, I'm really reticent to accept the DS2 as a replacement until I know that detail data can be downloaded to an open source software like OSCAR.
I may just keep the DS1 until that time.

The thing that doesn't make me too hopeful for the OSCAR team is that supposedly Phillips has encrypted the data files such that they may only be "read" by a software product that Phillips sells to sleep specialists. But this time Phillips has supposedly utilized an encryption scheme that uses revolving encryption keys, so that the decryption key keeps changing on a daily basis.

I don't know what Phillips is thinking, but I would not buy/rent/or steal a device that would prevent me from seeing my moment by moment pressure and flow.
I can only liken that to purchasing a car whose speedometer is disabled. (replaced with an indicator of above or below speed limit)

This is being worked on. Many thanks to the OSCAR developers who have cracked the code! A release that supports the DS2 will be available before the end of 2022 (I think).
