Resmed N30i Cushion change in Material?

Post by QueSera » Wed Oct 20, 2021 1:52 pm

Took me 2+ years, but awhile back I finally found the perfect mask for me: Resmed N30i. Yesterday I swapped out the cushion, noticing that the new one came in a plastic bag instead of the clamshell-type package I’d gotten before. I put it on and noticed immediately that it felt different. The part that touches my nose is softer, and does not hold its shape properly so, of course, huge leaks. I kept it on, thinking I might adjust, but about 15 minutes later, all the skin touched by the cushion started to feel hot, so I took it off and saw red, itchy skin in the middle of my face. (I had tried the very similar mask that has nostril prongs, same frame and headgear, and had to give that up too because I was allergic to it.)

So here’s the question: is anyone aware of Resmed changing the materials in their nasal cushions and pillows? Both of these were in Resmed marked packages. Does anyone sell black-market counterfeit CPAP supplies, and is that what the DME sent me?

Time to look for a new mask, I guess. Again.

Resmed changed the material in the N30i.

Thank you for that confirmation. I guess it’s back to the Dreamwear for me.

and this pretty much illustrates why we tell folks that it's hard to find a mask. what works for one may not work for all.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Still a newbie here. So Dreamwear masks work on ResMed machines? I also hate the feel of the F30i silicone. I love the mask itself but I have to have a liner. Without it, the mask sticks to my skin and pulls and gets hot. I have only tried two masks, the P10 and the F30i. I would like to experiment with some others now that I have almost adjusted to apap therapy.

You can use any mask with a regular CPAP machine. The only limitations on masks is some of the small travel machines require special masks when using them.

Before giving up on the new flexible N30i design, try adjusting the head strap tighter. That worked for me. (But I've only used it 3 days so far.)

Strangely, with the tighter strap the portion of the mask just above the cushion pressed more tightly against my cheek than I've experienced with any mask other than a full face mask. It was not uncomfortable, just unexpected.

I use the 30i as well. I looked at the Dreamwear online but can't see the big difference. What do like about the Dreamwear. I may try it but I'd like to know how it's different. Thanks.

I didn't know that. That opens up many more possibilities. Thanks.

I use the N30I with the medium cushion. If it would help I have 5 in the claim shell package and would trade for the ones in the plastic package. :D

Bobby, I would be happy to trade 5 medium n30i AirFit nasal cushions in the plastic bag for 5 in the clamshells. PM me.

I use the N30i and have several left over from when I first received it.

The only difference I can see is that the newer one have air vents, as seen below.

OK, just tried the n30i "new" style cushions, and I am experiencing bothersome leaks! I am constantly adjusting the position with my hands. I have tried adjusting straps, but as soon as I move at all, I get the sound of leaks. Not severe, but bothersome nonetheless.

I do have a large number of old style cushions in their plastic clamshell containers as I don't switch them out very often at all.

I assume the ResMed has heard complaints about the new style and material.

I doubt they actually "heard" anything at all.
