ResMed CPAP machine tips easily

Post by lrob123 » Sun Oct 10, 2021 1:03 pm

A few months ago, I got a ResMed Aircurve 10 bipap machine because my Phillips Dreamstation machine was recalled. Since then a few times, including last night, I somehow pulled on the hose during the night and the machine partially tipped causing the hose to start squirting a lot of water on my face. Then the hose continued spitting water for another few minutes after I had righted the machine. I never had this problem with the Philips Dreamstation machine over the many years I used it so perhaps the Dreamstation was heavier or more stable. In most other ways, I prefer the Resmed machine.

It seems as though this Resmed machine is prone to tipping because of its lightness and its dimensions. I tried putting it in a tray but that still allowed it to tip easily. My husband suggested turning it around but if I did, I couldn’t see or use the controls easily in the middle of the night or in the morning. So finally I duct taped the machine to the bedside table. That is not a convenient solution because then I’ll have to untape and re-tape it when I travel. Also it might leave sticky residue on the table.

Also, soon my elderly father will be newly starting CPAP and he will be getting a ResMed Airsense 10 in a couple of weeks. I’m concerned that he will have the same issue.

I use a heated hose which in general seems as though it should be long enough and is about the same length as the hose on my older Dreamstation. I might be somehow pulling on the hose when I’m asleep.

Does anyone have any tips on how to handle this problem? Thank you.

Anchor the hose to something solid between the mask and machine. Close to the machine, preferably.
You will then pull on the anchor point and not the machine.

Set the machine in a box or drawer.

Perhaps, put the machine on a sticky pad so it does not move or at least would have a harder time moving.

It's tipping, not sliding (but good idea for sliders).

What you need is one of these https://www.amazon.com/Hose-Buddy-CPAP- ... B00866NTJY CPAP.com doesn't have them any more, I don't know why not but Amazon does. This will solve all you problems. I have one and a lot of members here use one. I put mine under the mattress at the head if the bed.

If you put a cover on the hose, you can use a safety pin to fasten it to your sheet.

Or route the hose around the machine, not over it.
