Your attempt at humor aside, my mother was a nurse, one learns things while living with medical people.

Though there is debate on the merits:

My wife and I got our flu shots at the same time, a couple weeks ago. Interestingly, she said it was the most painful flu shot she had gotten, whereas I didn't even feel the needle. Pure chance, hit a nerve or something in her and missed everything for me.
IMO its the way the person gets injected - some are smooth others not so.

fwiw - my father was a brain surgeon.

I have never gotten a flu shot and don't ever plan to. Have heard too many horror stories from those who have.
I've had a few bouts with the flu over about 50 years and have survived. I could probably count them on one hand.
I figured that "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".
The last time I had the flu was either in 2009 or 2010. I know it was the flu in 2009 because it was going around the facility where I worked. But, 2010 may have only been a nasty cold.

With this Covid situation, I wasn't about to take chances and got the shots early this year.......Jan & Feb.

Hi Den!

I, of course, completely respect your decision to avoid the flu vaccine (the side effects were pretty icky, back in the day). These days, the flu vaccines are more user friendly, so you might want to re-investigate the topic online and check w your doc on flu vaccine side effects.

Something else, and this is a phenomenon that is not at all new, is that vaccines for one illness can wake up your innate immune system for other bugs. It goes by different names, but "trained immunity" is worth a search. In fact the epidemiology has shown that those who are up-to-date w flu vaccinations get less severe (or no) covid symptoms.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2 ... 123547.htm
The analysis revealed that those who had not had the flu shot were significantly more likely (up to 20% more likely) to have been admitted to the ICU. They were also significantly more likely to visit the emergency department (up to 58% more likely), to develop sepsis (up to 45% more likely), to have a stroke (up to 58% more likely) and a DVT (up to 40% more likely). The risk of death was not reduced.

Again, no worries if flu shots are not "you". Just thought I'd offer another side for your consideration.

Best- - Capt. Midnight
