The lifespan of an AirMini

Post by guswah » Thu Sep 30, 2021 12:54 pm

Does anyone have any idea about the AirMini's longevity? I can't imagine that it will endure years of daily use since that would be about 2,500 hours annually. I guess I'm trying to estimate its chances of surviving a half decade or so.

I don't believe the travel machines were made to be used on a regular basis. I doubt that they would last any where near 5 years.

Definitely not intended as a daily driver, but some of us are using one as such due to the Philips situation.

One thing that should help is to unplug it when not in use. It's stays pretty warm otherwise and this should help keep extra stress off the electronics.

That makes some sense, since as a travel machine, it is assumed
it will be unplugged when not in use--as opposed to a home machine,
which remains plugged in at all times.
I cannot attest to any actual benefit to unplugging, though it probably cannot hurt.

I ended up putting mine on a smart plug that I can just turn on/off without having to unplug at the wall adapter OR at the power port. I was actually more concerned about the latter wearing excessively. The important thing would be to make sure you get a smart plug that is designed for switching or appliance use. These have actual relays inside that cut all power. Otherwise, particularly with one that dims, you can end up with a tiny trickle charge (used to keep the electronics inside powered) across the plug.

Relevant to the lifespan of the AirMini and the AirSense 11, but they appear to use the identical blower motor.

Not sure if this speaks well to the AirMini, or poorly to the Air 11.

I've been using my Mini daily for probably well over a year now with no problems, although that wasn't my intention. I used to travel for work a lot pre-COVID and bought it strictly to use as a travel machine to supplement my DreamStation. I found a slept much better using it versus the DreamStation and then the DreamStation recall hit, so I've been using the Mini ever since. That being said, I'm thinking about getting an AirSense 10 since the Mini elbow is quite loud and for humidification, when needed.
