I'm a newbie -- about a month into CPAP reliance ... er, therapy. Of course my life is enormously better, and I ain't going back.
The hose that connects my F20 mask emits a small but constant breeze from the attachment at the mouth. Is this normal? (It does seem like a waste of precious air.)

Perfectly normal, it's the vent where your exhaled air is expelled. Unless you live on a spaceship, there is no shortage of air to worry about.guswah wrote:I'm a newbie -- about a month into CPAP reliance ... er, therapy. Of course my life is enormously better, and I ain't going back.

Well, when I say "precious" air, I'm referring to the stuff mined by the CPAP machine from the surrounding area and sent in an expensive tube in the direction of my head. But if the air emission is strictly exhaled air, then I withdraw my whine.

If excess air were not vented off, you would get sick from the carbon dioxide
you have exhaled.
you have exhaled.

Look up Venturi effect... the air that continually escapes from the designed-in vents of your mask is a small part of the air from the flow generator. In the process of escaping it draws the air you have exhaled into the mask towards the vents and minimises any chance that you will inhale it again.
