Chipmunk cheeks can happen even at lower pressures...actually at any pressure but you could certainly try reducing the pressure and see what happens.

Bear in mind that when you reduce the pressure then the pressure may not be able to hold the airway open and prevent airway collapses so you may see an increase in the AHI should that happen.

Full face masks come with their own leak baggage...up to you if you want to go down that road. They don't necessarily stop chipmunk cheeks either but will allow you to simple release the pressure by opening your mouth without losing therapy pressure. Might also still wake you up though which of course is unwanted because it messes with sleep quality.

Not my job to make decisions for you.
That's your job.
My job is only to explain the options available and pros and cons to those options.

I do almost always go for the cheapest and easiest experiment to be trying though. Worst thing that could happen is you learn it wasn't a good option and you move on to a different experiment. I always learned something though from all my experiments. Sometimes all I learned was what a stupid idea I tried.
When I first started cpap therapy I was doing some mouth breathing out of habit....so I opted to tape my mouth because it was cheap easy experiment to try. Now I have never had a problem with chipmunk cheeks and I routine saw pressures in the mid teens (still do sometimes). I quit taping after about 3 or 4 months....broke the mouth opening habit.
Every now and then I might see evidence of very brief mouth opening....I ignore it since it doesn't wake me up and it never lasts long enough deep in large leak territory for it to really have a negative impact on my therapy.

Getting to sleep and staying asleep and getting enough hours of sleep has always been my primary goal because without sleep none of the good numbers mean much.
Thank you Pugsy.
I tried chin strap last night. It's a home-made one made from one of my ankle straps. I decided not to use tape this time.
I do not recall having chipmunk cheek last night. But I do recall occasionally I was waked up and had to open my lips to let the air out.
Not surprisingly the OSCAR showed major leaks last night.
The homemade strap did not work, I ordered another one online and will give it a try.

You are a mouth breather.

Just a chin strap will not work. Even with your mouth closed you will still breath through your teeth.
Tape your mouth or get a full face mask while you try to train yourself to eliminate mouth breathing.

Thank you Jimbud.

Last night I tried to sleep with strap + tape + CPAP w/ P10 mask.

Good news: Best night probably in a month! I can only recall one time I waked up at midnight found my cheeks are puffing up under the strap. Perhaps when I get my new strap it will get better.

Bad news: I can not think of sleeping w/ strap and tape for the rest of my life. It's not compatible with my job I occasionally have to do the night shift, I'm a medical doctor. But I used to think I can not live with CPAP so who knows. Eventually, I need to train to keep the back of my throat shut while sleeping like I used to. Or perhaps try a full face mask if that works as good as strap and tape. I still suspect it has sth to do with my weight loss. There is no mouth leak when I was a bigger guy. Hopefully, my body will adjust to the weight change gradually.

I don't understand the logic of keeping the back of your throat closed - completely counterproductive to the whole point of Cpap... or did I miss something along the way?

I think referring to closing the oral cavity/back of mouth so that the air pressure doesn't sneak into the mouth causing chipmunk cheeks.

Congratulations on having a better night! Don't try to think too far into the future; with time, all kinds of routines can become, well, routine. Or not; you'll see. Meanwhile, keep working on training your tongue. Many people here have had good luck with that.

Sorry for the wording. I meant the back of my oral cavity. I have an issue with the chipmunk cheek when using CPAP.

Thank you Miss Emerita. Last night I still waked up several times. I suppose the strap I'm using now could only partly prevent the chipmunk cheek at best. And even though there is no leak on OSCAR, I could still be waked up by either the ill-fitted strap or the sensation of my cheek puffing up. I'm still waiting for my new chin strap and hopefully, it will do a better job. But I think the ultimate solution would be training my tongue well enough to prevent the air from going into my oral cavity, with or without a strap and tape.

It's so weird.
We had a party last night. And I end up totally drunk. And for the first time in a year, I forgot to use my CPAP machine.
I still had the problem of early waking up at around 5:30 am, only this time I felt very refreshed. (Except for the hangover of course). And I felt great throughout the day.

It's so weird. My osa is cured?

Every night's sleep is different.

Occasionally, I go with only 2-3 hours of sleep and feel ok the next day.
The short sleep session is just a nap.

Can't blame you for the wishful thinking though.
CPAP is a PITA.
Don't give up on trying to make it work just because of a lucky fluke.

if it's a PITA, you have it hooked up wrong.

Given the torrent of farts on a bad day, it does feel like it's been hooked up that way :? :? :?

CPAP is a PITA.
You know what was a PITA for me?
I'll tell you anyway.

My life living with Apnea before therapy. Knowing something was wrong, but not knowing what.
No doctor recognizing my symptoms and steering me toward therapy. Until my health took a dive and I ended up in the hospital. My cardiologist sent me to get checked out with a home monitor. Severe OSA.

The therapy is a God Send, not a PITA. For me.

YMMV. :D
