Help with Leaks? (OSCAR data attached)

Post by djconner » Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:09 am

I've been having a lot of trouble with leakage over the past month, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I replaced my mask and "elbow" over the past couple weeks ("ahead of schedule"), but that didn't seem to do anything.

I've had the equipment for almost a year, and it has usually worked well for me, and I can't figure out what's going on. I haven't been waking up in the middle of the night, but I still feel like crap in the morning.

Does the data here point to anything as a potential problem?

Adding some information from a past post which tells us what mask is being used and is important to know.

Using a ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto Bipap, with an AirTouch F20 mask. Humidifier set at maximum.

I've been using it since November 2020, and it's been working fine overall. But the last couple months, I've been waking up in the middle of the night with dry mouth pretty much every night.

The weird thing is, I never had this problem before, and I'm not sure what might have changed. I'm fairly sure I'm not breathing through my mouth during the night.

Is it possible that it's related to seasonal allergies somehow?

Your mask is moving A LOT for some reason.

Don't need or want all those graphs because when someone includes so many graphs they are so tiny they are useless for evaluation purposes. The most important graph for you is the leak graph which is so tiny we can't see exactly how bad the excess leak might be.

Did you also replace the headgear???? when you replaced the other items.

Do you have facial hair?

Which part shows that the mask is moving a lot?

Thanks - I looked at that page beforehand, but couldn't figure out how to change the graph display. I was looking for a way to add/remove graphs, versus just moving them around and stretching them.

Hopefully this is better - let me know if anything not shown would be useful.

I did replace the headgear, and I do have facial hair, though I trim it fairly close and I've had it throughout the year, including the problem-free periods.

Also, I have fairly low event numbers - I assume that may be misleading when there's a lot of leakage going on?

Your leaks are so deep into large leak territory it could very well be affecting the machine's ability to sense and record apnea events despite the low AHI. We don't know if the AHI is low because nothing happened or because the machine was clueless due to severity of excess leak. While the machine can compensate for some large leak....above 35 L/min it starts getting iffy and above 40 L/min all bets are off.

Also leaks of this magnitude can sure mess with sleep quality in general. Cause lots of arousals.
Crappy sleep quality simply causes crappy daytime feelings.

Now what is causing the leak....you have to figure that out.

RESOLVED: Changing the mask (just the part with the foam cushion) seemed to do the trick. Apparently this particular F20 degraded unusually quickly or was defective somehow (I was thinking of it as still "new," because it was only a couple weeks old.)

With a new F20 in place, I've had a couple good nights (Sunday night at 100% according to MyAir.)
