Do whatever is best (or least bad) for YOU.
Not using your current machine is not a good alternative.
Do it, but keep after your providers to get you a replacement machine.
Or, shop around for a used Resmed alternative--on your own dime.
Resmed is just plain made better--Respironics cannot match that.
The foamgate mess had pounded that fact in quite sufficiently.

Are the algorithms different as was alluded to in a previous post?
Yes....different algorithms between the different brands.

Seems that I'm being forced to go cold turkey on any request through the sleep clinic.
I need to use the humidifier and they're saying just use a nasal spray...
You do understand that all the ResMed AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 (includes ASV) have humidifiers built in?????
Why do you keep harping on the fact that you need humidity? These machine offer humidity built in and they even have larger water chambers.

Is someone telling you these machines don't have a humidifier?? If they are....pretty sad state of affairs if they are that uneducated on the machines.

How much does the ResMed AC10 ASV (BiPAP ASV unit) cost?
Google is your best friend.
Anywhere from 3K to 5K depending on website if shopping new.

For ASV model class machines there are really only 2 brands available....ResMed and Respironics
With the Respironics foam problem and the fact that Respironics is not yet making DreamStation 2 ASV models...that leaves you one option only if you want/need ASV and that is ResMed.

I have to say if you want a real awesome CPAP that will never fail you do what I did when it came time to get a new one and demand the DME give you at least a AIRSENSE 10.

Well, except that now the Airsense 11 is out... something to look into.

Nope.
AirSense 11 should not be considered.
The 11s do not have the ASV model yet.

The OP should be hunting down a ResMed AC10 ASV or a ResMed S9 VPAP Adapt with the H5i attached.

I thought the Airsense 10 autoset which is what I currently have and love was like the best you could get until next best thing comes along.

It is a great machine and so is the AirSense 11 AutoSet machine but the OP here is using an ASV type of machine and the AutoSets simply won't do what the ASV machines will do. There are problems that need ASV treatment and regular cpap/apap machines aren't necessarily "better than nothing". Might even create more problems.
Since we don't know all the particulars as to why ASV is being used....not a good idea to advise using the AutoSet.
The AutoSet works great for OSA....not so great at all if a back up rate is needed or a specific tidal volumes are needed.
AutoSet can't deal with centrals at all and might even make more problems. It's good at what it does for OSA but can't do anything for other respiratory issues or central apnea.

And as of now...ResMed doesn't seem to offer the ASV model in the A 11 model line.

It seems I’ll not get any support from Kaiser/Apria regarding my current (7 yr old) Philips Respironics System One (60 Series) BiPAP autoSV AdvancedModel 960P. (At the time I spent, with coverage, ~$1800 for the unit.) I’ve registered the machine with Philips and expect at some point to receive notification of a fix or replacement unit, but I’m not counting the days. Most federal approvals (e.g., FDA) take months or years to happen…

I suspect the answer is “none whatsoever” but without delving into the small print of the insurance contract I don’t currently have (but have requested), I’m curious to know if Apria or Kaiser (which?) has any responsibility for the unit or any role in its replacement, repair, or delivery, when an FDA approval is issued.

It appears that right now Respironics is just sending out DreamStation 2 models as replacements.
I haven't heard of anyone actually sending a machine back for repair.
To complicate things further it is unknown when Respironics will even be making the ASV DreamStation 2 model.
In the past when a new model was introduced it was always many, many months before there was an ASV model in the new model line.

Get your doctor to write a prescription for the ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV machine and be done with it.
It will do what you need done.

Very special type of machine used for very special and more complicated problems than run of the mill OSA.
Also very expensive....4 or 5 times more expensive than the more common cpap/apap machines. Limited quantities as well.

FDA premarket 510(k) approval is not required for new models of CPAP machines.

Whom have you talked to at your insurance company (Kaiser, not Apria)? Have you spoken to a supervisor? Forget talking to Apria.

Replacement of a 7-year old machine with problems should be covered by insurance!

Unless your insurance is really crappy.
Contact your insurance, and keep asking for higher-ups
until you hit a voice with a BRAIN behind it.
Hint: threats of litigation make people nervous . . .
