First night

Post by Mjd » Sun Sep 19, 2021 9:01 am

First night with new mask. Had machine on for six hours. Only slept 15 min. Then Slept without machine for two hours. Awoke with chest pain. Tried machine again for 30 min. Then gave up. Slept another two hours and awoke with chest pain. The machine causes me to want to take super deep breaths like 4 times deeper than my normal. So now my lungs or diaphram hurt. I am afraid that since i have had poor quality sleep for so many months that i truly cannot function. Can using a cpap be bad for some people? I am such a light sleeper i dont know how to fall asleep with this machine. I am very afraid my health will deteriorate. Also my arms are so weak i can barely hold the phone to type. Also I cant find where to put in my cpap machine and mask info.

Look on your machine face....what does it say? Lower right corner of the face/front.

Respond isn't a ResMed model name

Choices you should see would be AirSense 10 model line are

CPAP
Elite
AutoSet
AutoSet for Her

Model name is very important because different models have different features or options.

Cant get over sense of panic like my nose is blocked and i need to tear this mask off. Took mask off realized my nostrils are tightening drying closing. Pressure was up to 10+ humid was set at 6 and temp was set at 73. Also ears are closing up (eustation tubes). Think i have wrong size. Need small nose piece according to the measuring guide for this mask. Don't have small they only gave me med and small wide. This is a mask they gave me a demo bc i couldn't get appt at Medical West for second mask (within first 30 days of getting cpap and first mask) for two weeks so i drove over there to ask for help. Now next appt is 23rd. What a cluster. Med West has staffing issues and too much demand.

you're getting closer.

in the links pugsy gave you is another set of links. these have to do with the free software, oscar. you need to download it and use it. it will gather data from your machine. this data is specific to your particular sleep apnea.

once you have that and post it in the forum, we'll be able to help you. but without that data, we can only guess. and guessing isn't going to get you "fixed".

He's not sleeping yet with the mask. OSCAR will help with settings etc but any detailed data is going to be awake breathing muddying up the details.

Needs to maybe use the mask and machine while awake to get used to it so that he can finally go to sleep.
Until we get a couple of hours of asleep data....can't offer much....but it would be nice to see settings and is ramp on or not?
15 minutes...pretty much useless.

Yes initially she set it at 5-8. I called and asked for increase. She changed it to 7-20. I am an anxious person these days as the world is nuts. So overcoming anxiety and trying to fall asleep on this thing has me in a very bad place. Not to mention the side effects like dry sinus and dry eyes. Maybe going to get back on Antidepressent next week seeing shrink. Got off it when i retired four years ago as stress was over. Well in this world now too much doom and gloom . I usually walk for exercise but with no sleep i cannot.
