Okay… I haven’t received anything from Phillips. Awhile ago I tried re-registering my device, but it was already registered. Curious if anyone in Canada has received a replacement. I purchased my DS1 at the end of March 2021. I used it for 3 months and it was recalled. Hopefully we see movement soon!

I registered my machine with Philips and received a letter yesterday basically telling me to stop use of the CPAP. My sleep doctor says to continue using the machine as the risks of not using it far outweigh any possible danger from the machine.
What are the rest of you who use these units doing? BTW, I do not use any of those cleaning devices

Your doctor is well informed and good at risk/benefit analysis.

Are these particles visible with the naked eye?

Agreed. I will continue with the Dreamstation until a replacement is sent from Phillips.

Just checking in if anyone on Canada has had any movement on their DS2? I still haven't heard a thing and I registered in early June. I received my DS1 at the end of March and had it recalled in early June - I used it for 2 months. Not sure if that means I'd be at the end of getting a replacement?

Thanks!

I registered on 8/22/21. I’ve heard nothing from them. I talked to the local store that I got the device from and they were no help. I called and talked to the ENT Doctors office the first of September and they said they would look into it and get back with me but never did. I finally bought a Resmed Airsense 10 autosense out of pocket in late September and have been sleeping better than ever. The machine is even quieter, my AHI is now averaging 0.1 and I don’t need to worry if I’m inhaling foam or cancerous causing gases. We’ll see if or when I ever get something from Phillips. I won’t be sending them the old one back!

I'm leaning towards just getting a resemd myself. I had my DS1 for less than 3 months before it got recalled. I never even got used to wearing a CPAP mask. I think the longest I went through the night was 4 hours. I just hate having to get another machine so soon. I am feeling the difference though. Even though I only got to 4 hours, I had a lot more energy then, than I do now without it!! I still remember - I had the choice between a DS and Resmed, and I went DS!!!

I registered early as well and have not heard from Philips yet about a replacement or repair. I registered 2 machines: My old Remstar System One bought in 2010 and a Dreamstation 1 I bought in 2019 that I barely used because it was just too noisy (even had the provider replace it and the second unit was even worse...). So I went back to my System one after a while trying to get used to it... until today ;).

I just took delivery of a brand new ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset. Preliminary tests are very convincing to me. My System One was really starting to show its age (25000+ hours on the motor, yes, you read that right, that's 25 *thousand* hours+). The Airsense 10 feels a lot more "solid" yet more comfortable even than the Dreamstation 1 to me in comparison. It reacts way quicker to my breathing and I had the Flex settings maxxed on both my PRs with 10 mins ramp time but I have EPR set at 1 on the ResMed with no ramp time at all (my min pressure is 8 ). My System One was near completely silent for years but started to be less so in the last few months. The ResMed is also near silent. I love it so far!

Personally, I didn't want to wait on Philips. The two noisy DS1 units I got back to back in 2019 had already soured me towards them (I pay for my CPAP equipment out of pocket). The recall sealed the deal for me. Unless they are the only provider left on the market. I'm done with them.

I now cannot wait to see how my first night with the Airsense 10 will be like :)

My timeline........

- Diagnosed with sleep apnea February 2020.
- Received a DreamStation 1 from DME in March 2020.
- Have not used any type of ozone cleaner/sanitizer (I don't think ozone usage was a basis for quicker replacement based on some posts in two CPAP forums. Might be wrong)
- Registered my DreamStation 1 for recall June 2021.
- Continued to use DreamStation 1 despite recommendations by Philips (any significant off gassing had already occurred early on and no sign of any particulates in water chamber or elsewhere).
- Received email notice from Fedex on October 8, 2021 that a package was on its way from RESPIRONICS INC. (I have a Fedex account and get notifications of shipments).
- I received a DreamStation 2 on Oct 10, 2021 via Fedex.
- I had called my DME regarding filters and other scheduled supplies specific to the DS2 and they already had been notified that I had received the DS2 and had the serial number on file (I assume through Philips).
- I shipped the DS1 back to Philips today via Fedex, October 25, 2021.

I Had given thought to keeping the DS1 as a spare, but the DreamMapper app via computer access had been reassigned to the DS2 so I couldn't check daily usage numbers easily and the DS2 seems to have better algorithms which have yielded lower AHI numbers (AHI of 0.4 on one night!!). The DS2 is also a quieter machine. Lack of OSCAR access to files isn't too much of a concern and I very seldom used it with the DS1 other than out of curiosity. While limited, the DreamMapper app provides adequate information combined with data from an O2Ring to give indication of how the night transpired.

FWIW, here's my timeline:
- Diagnosed 2002, used Phillips Remstar CPAP, then Remstar Auto from 2004 to 2016
- 2016 Purchased Dreamstation 1 (which now has 12K hours on the blower)
- Used no ozone, (anticipate that any out-gassing has already occured) and saw no evidence of foam particulate in humidifier water
- June 30 2021, Registered for recall-replacement
- Sept 10 2021, Phillips confirmed that the recall registration had been received on July 5
- Oct 26 2021, I have not received any communication or packages from Phillips, FedEx, or DME

Going Forward:
I am greatly distressed that Phillips has:
1) actively inhibited (by encryption) patient access to detailed patient therapy data
2) seemingly enabled that same data to be collected by Phillips and transmitted (by request) to prescriber only
3) Redesigned the humidity chamber so that it must be removed to add water
4) made the humidity chamber more complicated and difficult to clean
5) may require the purchase of a new heated tube (electrical connections may be incompatible)

Consequently,
I am seriously considering holding on (not returning) my Dreamstation 1 until I've given the DS2 a 30 day trial run AND the Oscar team is able to decrypt the patient data.

Alternatively,
Purchase a Resmed Airsense 11 (just like my wife's) and be done with Phillips completely

It is an outrage that Philips is getting away with this CRAP!
No wonder the internet lawyer scum are slobbering over victimizing people further.
I guess it's a sign of the times . . .

Just joined to say I registered my unit for the recall on Aug 19 as a Canadian user. Nothing since then. I'm now willing to purchase a unit, but places seem to be out of stock in Canada (for simple shipping purposes) on any quality machines (some less than mainstream stuff is available). At this stage I'm willing to go out of pocket. *sigh* So far my DS1 seems to be working without incident (fingers crossed).

thanks,
