Safe to assume ResMed AutoSet?

When you get your DS1 recall replacement, keep it as a backup?

I registered my machine early and received this email from Philips earlier this month:
We are pleased to share an important update regarding your Philips device replacement. Philips received authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the repair and replacement program for devices impacted by the June 14, 2021 recall notification*.

With this approval, we are initiating the repair and replacement program that puts patient safety and speed of resolution as the top priorities. Further, we have significantly increased our production, service and rework capacity to deliver replacement devices as fast as possible.

Also, we have learned of some fraudulent activity targeting patients impacted by this recall. We want to assure you that Philips will never ask for any payment or credit card information by phone or email.

Patient care is at the heart of everything we do at Philips. While we are starting to replace devices, in some cases, this process may take approximately 12 months. We will stay in communication with you regarding your replacement device. If you have already received a replacement device, please follow the instructions included in the box.

Today I received a call from my DME supplier regarding a replacement device. I will get an email when it ships. They said to keep power cord, tubing, mask, humidifier, sd card and modem from my current device to use with replacement device. They said my prescribed pressures have been set on replacement device. They said to follow enclosed instructions to return recalled device to Phillips. Since I'm to use parts from recalled device with replacement device, it looks like I'll be getting what I had, except it will have been repaired.

To be honest I'm a Philips user since day one. My first unit being a System One, which broke, and the DS1 was a replacement for it. Full disclosure, I paid out of pocket for it as my insurance doesn't cover sleep apnea.

When I eventually get my DS2, I might keep it as a backup, only to note they are really pushing the 5 year lifespan on the device, so even as a backup, its life is limited.....

As to what I might buy, to be honest I'm in a real pickle as I live in a country where CPAP devices are not sold, but essentially leased, and thats a game I don't play, so I was able to get my DS1 unit in Canada with my prescription, hence my using the Canadian recall process. Anyway, the issue I have is that I'm invested into Philips as I bought a rather expensive (including international shipping) Medistrom Pilot-12 (not the light version) for my DS1 a few years ago. Going to Resmed means I need the 24v version of the battery, and I'm not keen to just junk my current battery that's been working really great for me. I'd honestly prefer a solution where I can keep the 12v battery in use.

decisions, decisions.

And heavy as well, including additional bulk. I think I would also need a custom adapter as well to connect to my current battery.

It's probably best I stick with 12v tech, which means according to their homepage:

• Philips Respironics DreamStation

• Philips Respironics System One S60

• DeVilbiss IntelliPAP I and IntelliPAP II*

• HDM Z1* (*Cable Kits sold separately)

Just checking in if anyone on Canada has had any movement on their DS2? I still haven't heard a thing and I registered in early June. I received my DS1 at the end of March and had it recalled in early June - I used it for 2 months. Not sure if that means I'd be at the end of getting a replacement?

Thanks!
I’m in Canada, received this on Oct 27th:

Philips is now providing intermittent shipments of replacement devices to our clinic, and it is now our responsibility to contact our affected patients and make arrangements for them to return their recalled device and obtain a replacement device. This process only applies to DreamStation CPAPs or AutoCPAPs.

The first replacements will be issued to patients who purchased their DreamStation in June 2021, the second replacements will be issued to patients who purchased their DreamStation in May 2021, then April 2021, then March 2021 and so on. Please note that for any replacement to be issued, you must register your device with the recall.

Looks like replacements are being made in reverse order of purchase.

Since I purchased my DS1 in Dec 2016, I guess I should be looking towards a replacement sometime in 2026 /s/

I have heard nothing since registering? How do I find out where I am in the queue?

I haven’t heard anything either. (In Canada). I’d be interested to find out where I am in the queue also. Any ideas are welcome!

Could be that the provider/clinic decides how to distribute the replacement machines, not everyone doing the same thing as mine.

I received a new Respironics Dreamstation yesterday. What am supposed to do with it?

Remember that last August I bought a new Aircurve 10 Vauto after getting my prescription for it from my sleep doc. for which I paid for myself.

I had 9500 hours on my old Dreamstation, and was hoping to get to over 10,000 hours by Dec., 2022 when my 5 years are ended. But then the recall hit.

I was so outdone that I asked and got the doctor to give me an chest x-ray. Then not a single DME in my town of 99,000 would issue me a Resmed.

My question: do the compliance rules still apply? If I don't use the new Dreamstation, can they take it back? I will use it as a backup for now, since I really like my Resmed.
For example, my average AHI since I bought it is .49, which I never was able to achieve with my old Dreamstation.

What do you think?

No. No.

1. Keep it as a backup. Everyone should have a backup.

- or -

2. Sell it for a premium price and buy a cheap, used model for a backup.
(If I remember correctly, you are filthy rich and this may not apply to you.)

Thanks, I'll do it (keep as a backup)

You may have me mixed up with someone else --- not at all rich, much less filthy, at least most of the time.

I was pleasantly surprised to receive today a Respironics DS2 Auto (looks new) replacement for my recalled Dream Station Auto. Since my recalled CPAP was only a few months short of five years old, I thought I would have been placed at the back of the replacement queue. Of course, I've got a new Resmed on order (which may take several months to fill), so, once I receive it, I'll end up using the DS2 as a backup.
