Resmed AirCurve 10 S Battery with AC Inverter

Hi All,

We are in the process of buying a travel trailer and looking at battery/solar solutions that will power my AirCurve 10 s bipap machine.

I started looking around to get a grasp on how many Ah it will use and found this battery guide from resmed:

They don't seem to list the aircurve, but all the 10 series machines seem to be recommended with DC > DC converter and only s9 and below are compatible with AC inverter. I have actually used my machine with an AC inverter in our in-law's camper and never had issues. I didn't even realize it wasn't recommended at the time. I plan to call them tomorrow, but curious if anyone has experience with this or why they would not recommend AC with inverter? I would prefer to do AC inverter simply because we'll need it for other uses anyway.

The power consumption with AirCurve is about the same as AirSense. It's the same hardware but an argument can be made for the potential of more consumption if running higher than 20cm.

When you use an inverter, you will experience considerable more capacity loss, because you are inverting your battery's voltage from DC to AC. Then more loss is experienced when transforming the inverters AC back to DC for the CPAP.

I've seen power loss estimated to be as much as 50% loss of capacity.

There are DC-DC converters for Air 10 devices as well. I have one for my AirCurve VAuto.

I like using a jump start battery cuz that is what I had available - I have since built several battery boxes for a variety of toys. But use the jump start battery each nite like a UPS w/o the alarm when the power goes off. Works Flawlessly and kept plugged in to AC.

For an RV and if you are comfy with wires you can add a cigarette lighter receptacle near the bed or build your own battery box you can also use at home during a power outage.
