Whatever model M Series Palerider has (I think the Auto though)...
I think I've got a pro and a plus. and yes, smartass grannies notwithstanding, either will work fine for what the OP is looking for.

Of course if you are in California I'm sure that working with Lead will cause you to die from Cancer or Lung Failure, but I have only spent 4 months in California so I didn't die from it.
Not a good idea to do this outside in California right now. We are tinder dry. Drop some molten lead on dry grass and your friend will be the next "stupid ways wildfires in California get started" story along with the Gender Reveal Party (El Dorado Fire, 22,000 acres burned, 23 days to come under control), people mowing dry grass, throwing cigarette butts out car windows, etc.

Speaking of toxic fumes . . .
In eleven years of using cpap, I have yet to experience a "Dutch oven".

Ha! Indeed, same principle. Useful little gizmos.

I have a friend who makes a lot of fishing weights, which consists of melting lead and pouring it into molds. The fumes are pretty terrible

Big thanks to @palerider for sending me that cpap machine, it's absolutely perfect for my purposes. With 16 feet of tubing it not only makes it so I don't breathe in any lead fumes but it keeps me breathing cold air so I can stay close to the molten lead much longer.

Incidentally I found another use for an old CPAP machine: as a cold smoke generator for a smoker. I found this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkZo6FFj0Zg

He's using an air compressor, which is noisy and pumps dirty air. A CPAP on the other hand is clean and quiet... So here's my version of it, powered by a CPAP and an old thriftshop fondue pot:

I might consider using my Intellipap Autoadjust for culinary smoking;
but it would be a shame--it has less than 50 hours on it.

I have a friend who makes a lot of fishing weights, which consists of melting lead and pouring it into molds. The fumes are pretty terrible, and I wasn't convinced his mask was doing him much good, so I figured out a system with my CPAP machine: I ordered a really long hose, a new mask, and put my CPAP outside. So when he's pouring lead he's breathing air piped in from outside. It works really well, I can burn incense literally right under his nose and he can't smell it, all the air he's breathing comes from outside.

I'd love to find him his own CPAP machine though, since my machine is much happier living next to my bed. I use a Resmed 10, but I'm thinking it doesn't need to be fancy, just something that provides constant pressure.

Does anyone happen to have a lead on an old cheap machine we can use for this purpose? Maybe an old high hour machine? Doesn't have to be in great shape of course. It's salmon season here in northern Califronia, we could conceivably even trade for some salmon... Or good old fashioned $$ of course.

Thanks for any help!
What kind of a mask was your friend using? Unless it's a respirator with filters specifically designed for this purpose it's nearly useless as protection. An exhaust hood would be MUCH better.

Are lead sinkers that expensive that he needs to make his own? Just wondering...

He has some fancy mask that's commonly used by people doing this but I agree, he was getting fumes.

Lead weights for salmon fishing are wildly expensive, up to about $7 per 2 pound weight. That adds up super quickly. We're a little fishing community too so we use a lot of weights, and he makes them for everyone.

Oh, and 10 pound downrigger weights can be $70...

He needs a supplied-air respirator that exclusively uses air from a remote location,
and seals out air in the area of the mask, where the Pb fumes are.
They are available for painting and work with toxic materials.
Cpap should work nicely, with a full face mask and good goggles.

Works fantastically. With the mask on and the CPAP machine outside the window I can literally burn incense under my chin without smelling a thing.

And good goggles are a must, unless you like rolling the dice with getting molten lead splatters in your eyes.
