Continuous glucose monitor.
A boon for diabetes control.
I wear a little doodad on my arm, and get glucose readings as often as I like.
No finger sticks unless I don't trust the sensor--then it's one and done.
I'm good until the numbers don't match how I feel.
Usually it's fairly close.
Then the numbers get crunched, and I have continuous data to die for.
Right in my hand-held reader.
Since some chemo drugs can play havoc with blood glucose,
I am ready to deal with it--with the assist of my oncologist/hematologist.

Update: orientation tomorrow, first chemo Friday morning.
The infusion is scheduled for five hours.
The bullfrog says "what do I do for 5 hours?" Like I can't guess . . .
I'll remind him to bring his earbuds, as his youtube videos are so annoying.
I plan to read a book--lighter than a tablet--and if I drop it--no damage.

also, my wife and i were online at disneyland, reading our books because the lines were, as we anticipated, LLLOOONNNGG. woman behind us said to us"you're lucky! you brought a book."

no dear, not luck.

prior planning.

Reading hard copy beats diving down rabbit hole after freakin' rabbit hole,
to find nothing but worthless ADs.
Yeah, I figured that out by myself.
I have a couple Clive Cusslers I have been wanting to read.
Digging out my sewing glasses--just to make it easier.

Froggy, your attitude is really good. Pre-planning to make your chemo sessions more relaxing is an excellent idea! It's so important to keep your spirits up during cancer treatments. As I laid under the radiation machinery I would always think to myself "That's another bunch of cancer cells killed. Yay!"

Froggy you got this! Never get discouraged. My Wife has a blood cancer, Multiple Myeloma. She went through radiation, chemo, Stem cell transplant, more chemo and she's got it under control now with the help of great care @ Mayo Clinic. Even if you hit bumps in the road, remember there is alway Plan B, C, D, E, and so on as my wifes Doctor used to say. God Bless you.

And thank you, Deborah.

I am sitting in the treatment area, waiting to be hooked up.
I am a little nervous, but it still feels like an adventure.

Finished the first session--5 hours, almost on the nose.
They shot me full of drugs to minimize side effects.
So far, only a very slight sore-ish place in my throat--soda&salt gargle for that,
S-F Ricola if needed, and maybe manuka honey if it gets worse.
10-14 days until I start looking like Dr. Evil.
Hair is only a pawn in the great chess game of cancer; and my hair is short,
but quite thick--lots of little soldiers, willing sacrifices to slay the dragon.
OK, weird metaphor, but cancer is a weird thing--it all fits.

I reckon they were being extra cautious, because, ahem, my age;
and diabetes--so the procedure is extra slow the first session.
The next three will be about 3 hours each--no problem,
our tablets, a book, lunch, snacks, each other . . .
Other people trade hours for months--my treatment plan is for a CURE.
I sure as heck take it, with no complaints.
My oncologist expects that two months (four sessions) ought to do the trick.
Maybe more; or a little radiation--when they can kill it good, they go for it.

Glow in the dark Froggy? you wouldn't need night lights or a flashlight anymore. :D
