Some untreated apnea patients are most certainly a danger to others on the road.
Likewise, also anyone sufficiently affected by drugs, alcohol, a disease, or even a sneeze.
It is impossible to be completely fair--and safe at the same time.
If you think you can help, by all means go forth, and fight for a better system.
If you need to use the cpap for more hours--do that.

There are no requirements for Maine doctors to report sleep apnea in the document you referenced. This doesn't stop doctors from reporting, but there are no requirements.

Probably one of those "sketchy" truck drivers--they give the profession a bad name.

Recently had a Dr tell me they don't report to the BMV. Mostly an integrity thing with BMV. Currently looking at CPAP alternatives...no way in hell I can sleep with a CPAP (tried it). More dangerous doing shift work and driving given my life experience.

Yep, just read a boiler plate description of sleep apnea and the potential consequences, therapies, etc.on that Maine DMV website, but nothing about doctors having to report it. Or consequences for not reporting. Must be somewhere else if it does exist. Didn't read the whole Maine motor vehicle code, though *smile*.

EDIT:
I am guessing that with medical privacy going away, the doctor is open to liability
if he does not report a driver who could nod off due to untreated apnea.

Maybe because I was critical of the reviver's refusal to use cpap,
Then being a Karen about it.
Children use cpap--adults just need to suck it up and DO IT.

My biggest concern is that this will keep patients from being diagnosed. Some people have no other access to transportation. The fear of being told that one would not be allowed to drive could scare one away from seeking diagnosis.
