Remember Takata? ...
My Takata airbag was replaced, then the replacement was replaced a few years later. On that basis Resmed is looking better and better.
Back in the 1970's Ford had a recall of flex engine blades, over and over, some cars I replaced four times over the year. I even got fast enough to make money doing it. I would line them up and change them 5 or 6 cars at a time. Jim

Apparently,

I just found out that by my country's law, I am not allowed to import a CPAP machine since it's a medical device, and we have a law that says you are allowed to buy a medical device just from the official domestic distributor that has an official government permission for it, so basically I'm doomed to either continue with CancerStation, or Devilbiss... So, basically I have two options CancerStation, or go with 70% O2 every night and let God decide when he'll take me... lol... Even worse, I am not allowed to import a CPAP mask as well lol, so no F30i for me, yet...

If I wanted Resmed I would have to smuggle it from outside the country. Which, of course I "won't do"

And for the things to get worse, both our country's medical insurance program and various private medical insurances don't cover a dime for CPAPs or masks, if you want to treat it, you have to treat it on your own, BUT you can't buy a machine without a diagnose, which I couldn't get for 10+ years... Who knows how much damage I endured on my heart and my health over the course of 15 years when my mom noticed it for the first time...

Phillips doesn't use air bags to deaden noise, and neither does Resmed, they use frayed seat belts. Jim

Philips is in no danger of going under due to this. Annual revenue is over $20 billion.

All you really need is to arrange an air BnB visit whereby someone "forgets" their Resmed machine and an F30i :D

Lol, exactly, but however I do plan to visit nearby country and buy Resmed and F30i because I forgot mine back home  ... Although with diagnose in my pocket, no custom worker would make me a problem if they ask me about the machine.

I know Philips is a huge company that makes lots of products and CPAP is just one segment, but I wonder if this could turn into such a debacle for them that they exit that market.

If it's still working within specs and doing the job it's supposed to do, and I'm still happy with it, why should I have to buy a new one just because it's reached a particular age? Again, what's the justification for replacing it? Just because it's medical equipment? Then, why not two years, or one year? It seems it should be my choice as to when I want to replace it.

I'm not saying to disregard the age. As your unit gets older you need to think of a backup. That may involve buying a new machine or using a previous machine. Right now, I'm using an M series that was replaced by a System One that was replaced by the Dreamstation.
It is your choice. But, you are here telling others what their choices should be.

You can just ignore any notices to replace your machine.

Thank you for posting this information and link. I went to the site, added my serial number (which I was able to get off the DreamMapper software and it notified that my machine is one of the recalled ones. I filled out the registration info and got this message:

Please notate your confirmation number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
What to expect next:
We regret that it may take some time to replace your device. The repair process for existing devices requires regulatory approval in your country, which we are working toward obtaining as quickly as possible. We will begin the repair/replacement process immediately upon that approval. When the repair/replace process commences, we will prioritize the devices that support patients with more advanced clinical needs. We understand the impact of this issue on your therapy and we sincerely
apologize for this disruption. It is our absolute number one priority to replace affected devices as quickly as possible.

For additional questions: For more information and updates, please visit Philips.com/src-update where we will be updating answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) as more information becomes available.

I then noticed who is running this recall program: Sedgwick. I deal with part of Sedgwick on a professional basis quite often and they are one of the slowest, non-responsive organizations I have ever dealt with. I apologize if someone on this site work for them. So, as some have said, this could take a very long time.

Not at all. My only complaint is with the manufacturers telling us we have to replace them at 5 years. If you look back in the thread I was talking about the new Resmed machine with the 5 year nag screen and the concern the next step will be to program them to stop functioning or reduce to a basic level of function at around 5 years.

Well, I like the reminder. By the time my machine is five years old, my backup machine will be ten years old. Time to get a new machine.

You do know the slippery slope argument is not evidence? It's a fallacy. It's commonly used when one's argument is baseless.

Also, I have not been able to find and order a heated hose (it ships with the regular hose) or an extra humidification chamber (I like to have 2 of them and alternate between them).
The heated hose from the DS1 is compatible with the DS2.

If a user wants a new machine and can swing paying for it, go for it.

Well, I'm finished with Respironics for good!

Flabbergasted is an understatement.

Saw my sleep doc this morning, and he knew without asking that I was in a discombobulated state.

I told him to schedule a chest x-ray for me --- he did and I had it in about 30 minutes later (will get results tomorrow)

I told him my machine had 9200 hours and I needed a new one, without delay. He prescribed one immediately - a Resmed airsense autoset bibap --- and its on the way as I speak.

I should get it in a day or two. I knew I needed to act fast, because I think Resmeds will be hard to find, given that they will probably be swamped with orders because of what happened.

Never in my life did I expect this to happen, just after a horrible year where 3 or my immediately had covid 19, and one almost died (had to restart his heart 2 or 3 times)

Well, as they always say: "Thank you Lord, and help me take one day at a time!!!"
