Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
So I've got one of the affected units. They give a choice between $50 when they receive the old unit and replacement. I started to just do the $50 turn-in but then wondered what the replacement unit might be (they aren't cheap). What has anyone done so far?
Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
In my case I purchased a new Resmed the day they announced the recall knowing what would happen to price and availability of replacements. I've done nothing with the three PRS 60 machines I own but I'm leaning toward making them replace those because $50 is an insult and a joke. I want this cost them as much as it possibly can and this is my little contribution to that end.LightStamp wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 1:36 pmSo I've got one of the affected units. Some of the dirty ones are too well insulated, too rich, too powerful
to ever meet justice. Then we save ourselves the pain by getting a little revenge.
It may be hopeless--but it feels so good.
If anyone has the powet to make a real difference, well, we are waiting . . .

i'm in a privileged position in that i can pay out of pocket.
left philips behind and fully embraced resmed.
don't care in my case what philips wants to do as i want nothing further to do with them.
i realize not all are so lucky and my heart goes out for them.

Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I started Medicare last year with an Advantage plan and I thought, finally after 13 years without good medical coverage I will get some help paying for my cpap supplies- NOPE. Must get a new sleep study and pass their guidelines before they will pay for cpap machine or supplies. I loathe the idea of going through another sleep study and all this red tape so I've just continued to pay my own way.
IMO, a current Rx should have nothing to do with replacement/compensation. We bought the machines and they are defective and recalled. We should be recompensed. Period.

Medicare does NOT require a new sleep study. Talk to your insurance company. If they tell you a new sleep study is required, ask to speak to a supervisor.
Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Would love to do this, but as I said when I put the air filter on the same amount of air didn't come through and I felt like I was suffocating.Oughtsix wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 5:22 pmThis is good to know! I bought the inline filters because I didn't have an extra grand to shell out for a new machine at the time and didn't want to inhale deteriorating foam. I only get a week out of a filter, more than that and the moisture in the CPAP air stream starts growing mold on the filter media... YUCK! I probably won't continue to use the filters when I get my AirSense 10.
Of course, I'm a central sleep apnea person so I have to have the AirCurve 10. I had a nice conversation with the people at cpap.com who were very knowledgeable - again almost more willing to discuss options then the doctors around here when it comes to the more intricate questions. Bottom line is I'm pretty much screwed. He said he could try to find a machine somewhere for me, but with COVID still being a thing there are a lot of people who need that bi-level action. A central sleep apnea solution isn't going to be easy to find. Which is why I just had Phillips put me on the replacement list.As a CPAP patient with ABSOLUTELY NO MEDICAL TRAINING... I would suggest looking at the AirSense 10 Auto that CPAP.com has on sale right now for $599 with a free mask if you use the BOGO2020 coupon code. Unless you currently have a BiPAP the AirSense 10 Auto should be all you need for a CPAP. If a doctor asks where you got the CPAP machine version recommendation from PLEASE tell them that you got it from the Internet... they always love to hear that!
BTW, anyone who wanted to know about the prescription problem with Phillips - when I called to tell them I wanted my machine replaced they didn't ask me anything about a prescription, which works for me. I don't know what they're replacing it with, but hopefully whatever it is I can plug it into my UPS system so if I lose my electricity it doesn't suffocate me. I just hope they realize my machine came with the warm water option, whatever it's called. The guy from cpap.com told me the Resmed Aircurve 10 just comes with one. When I originally got my System One machine, I had to make sure the doctor ordered the water tank.
Thanks again to everyone who shared their experiences with me.

Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Nice job Philips, shifting the problem over the insurance companies and individuals that bought theirs outright. I have a System One Series 60 and I paid over $2000 for my share after insurance paid part of it. No way I'm taking $50 for it so definitely will be having it fixed. It's a back up machine for me since I bought a used Resmed about 5 years ago. Guess I'll jump through the hoops. Did those people who had newer machines exchanged have to jump through the hoops also?

Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I made a big mistake and hope I won’t have to start at “square one”. I have an dream station1 and system one cpap machines. I registered them both last June and got confirmation numbers for each one. I checked the Philips portal when it first started for both machines. One confirmation number said it was registered, but not matched, the other one said it was having problems. I assumed (wrongly) that the number that matched was for the Dream Station 1. Nope, it was fort he old machine. So I was surprised when I got the notification about the System One not being replaced and I checked the other confirmation number which said “there is a problem”. I have not talked to Philips yet, but I hope I don’t have to start over the whole process and waiting period. I have a copy of both confirmation emails. Any suggestions on how to present this when I call Philips.
Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
The only thing you can do is be firm with them. You have confirmation numbers, that should be all you need. When I called, the lady on the other end of the line didn't seem like she cared much. Even if you have to go to the end of the waiting list, at least you'll get something sooner or later. If they try to tell you they don't know what to do, ask for a supervisor. Someone there knows. I hope everything went well if you've already called them.zaban3 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 4:50 pmI made a big mistake and hope I won’t have to start at “square one”. Has anyone joined one of the class-action lawsuits?

I don't have the mental energy to join one, but if you feel that you should, then you should. Just remember this though, the attorneys will be racking in the dough while the patients may get a couple hundred bucks if that. I'd just put money aside each month to save up for a Resmed though.RubySnooze wrote: ↑Wed Oct 12, 2022 11:51 pmHas anyone joined one of the class-action lawsuits?
