This is interesting, I might get one to add an extra layer of protection. Not that I'm particularly nervous but it doesn't seem like it would be obtrusive.
I use one, it helps with allergens that get past the hypoallergenic filter in the machine. I don't know, or care, about bacteria.

Seems unlikely that could get past the fine white filter.
