Back to the OP:
Trazodone not effective; may as well try Ambien, but maybe half a tab at first.
Consider your own physique and reactions to alcohol, etc.
When I was a flyweight (95#), I was a very cheap drunk. I can put away a bit more now.
After my knee surgery (motorcycle accident), the post-op "hypos" had me bouncing off the ceiling.
I always do best with minimal medication.
I had an rx for alprazolam, but an entire pill left me hung over, so I split them all.
Years later, I still have a tiny stash of crumbs--just in case . . .

I’ve been taking ambien for years. Cut it in half. 5mg works fine for me. Don’t stress over side effects. I take meds with way worse side effects than ambien.
You can just get smaller doses.

Pill splitters are inexpensive and easy to use.

I don't understand people getting 10mg ambien and splitting them, since you can get 5mg ambien. *shrug*

Pill splitting regular ambien - zolpidem generic saves money. Check out cost on Good Rx. On an insured plan the cost would be the same. Twice the supply for the same price. 10 mg tabs cost less or a few cents more per tab than 5 mg. It is not recommended to cut ambien CR.

As long as the medicine is not time release, or the label does not prohibit splitting,
The co pay is often figured on number--not dosage.
Why pay for 30 tablets when the cost is the same for 60 doses--plus a little work?
it is often a reasonable way to save money.

I was afraid of starting to take sleeping pills as well. Ambian is only suppose to be used for Short periods. I have been taking 2mg of Lunesta for about 2 years. It helps quiet my mind so I can fall asleep. I was afraid of the side effects as well. Just remember during the trials they have to report everything medically that happened during the trial. Some of it has nothing to do with the actual medication. I am very sensitive to medications and I have not had any negative reactions to it. I hear Ambian is a little worse with sleepwalking and being out of it than lunesta. This was just my experience. The most important thing is to make sure you get sleep.

From my experience, if any sedative is added, pressures have to be readjusted, according to my clinic. Reason being, sedatives cause individuals to sleep more relaxed, much deeper, causing increased AHI. So sleep study is done with sedative medication(s). Consult with your sleep clinic with each new sedative prescription. Wish you well.

I hadn't thought of that, thanks for the info. makes perfect sense.

If you have a reasonable auto range, you may not need to make any changes. On occasion, I will take a muscle relaxer. Reviewing my data does show that my machine spends more time at higher pressures, but still well within my settings. And my AHI remains less than 2, usually less than 1.5. So, I don't have to make any adjustments for medication. If I were to see a higher ahi, I would review the data and make some changes.

I just googled " ambien side effects" and the good rx list was the first thing that popped up.
idk if Cancer and Dementia is worth that 1% :/
Top Google links are almost always paid OR SHILLED links.
ESPECIALLY for medical items, and the worst on shady medical opinions.

I took it once and was chagrined to learn the next day that when I thought I was sleeping, I was actually up and around talking to people and saying some pretty crazy things. I had absolutely no memory of it at all. I won't take it again. If you live alone, it can be risky.

You may not have a terrible experience. I was deathly afraid of Ativan/Lorazepam when prescribed, as I thought it would depress my breathing and I would die or something. Turns out that at the dosage prescribed, it just has a bit of a "chill the fuck out" effect on my nervous system, and works quite well for anxiety/panic attacks.
You can always "give it a shot" and see how you react the first few times, and then decide from there with guidance from your doctor based on the feedback given.

I called and told them that I was not sleeping well the past 2 nights ...
Good grief, fellow members. Who hasn't had a period of two bad nights? This is not a reason to resort to powerful drugs. Check sleep hygiene, AHI, leak level, bedroom temp, stress related to work or family, ... lots of variables.
