YAY! Hubby and I got our second Pfizer vaccines this morning. Very exciting. Now our bubble (son, DIL, daughter, SIL) is half done. Our daughter, a teacher, got her second 2 weeks ago. Our son, DIL, and SIL get their second ones next week. All Pfizer except our DIL who got Moderna. Grands are too young. We shall see about effects this time...last time local tenderness and a bit of a sore arm for us oldsters. And some tiredness, 7:30 bedtime

The younger folks had a harder time of it. The pharmacist told my daughter it's because older folks are used to getting higher doses of flu vaccine because their immune systems need it so the COVID vaccine (same dose regardless of age) provokes more of a response in the younger patients. Not sure how true that is but ALL of them had a harder time than we did. The tetanus shot I had after an injury in Nov was way worse than my first COVID! Fingers crossed second is pretty much the same!

I won't mention this to my two older grandchildren who will be getting second shot in about an hour. Even if I did, I know they would both say it's better than getting Covid!
Speaking of a tetanus shot, I'm due for a booster in August. I remember my last one.

That's wonderful! I'm a bit behind reading the boards, but saw your first post and was hoping you would somehow be able to get an extra dose before your scheduled appointment. I am so glad you were able to. Congrats to your daughter...have a wonderful day at the graduation!
Thank you! We are so excited!

Everybody; get your vaccine while it's still free.
Herd immunity beats the heck out of thinning the herd.
Nobody knows if they or a loved one will be the next casualty.

Had my first shot of Pfizer this morning.
I'm in Ontario, Canada is light years behind the US in vaccine acquisition. One of the strategies being used to address vaccine shortage is to expand the time frame between the first and second dose. The thought being; it's better for the population to have a greater population with a single shot and partial immunity, than considerably less with both shots.
The recommended days between first and second dose for Pfizer is 21 days, my second shot is scheduled for August 6. 112 days.
As much as I'd like to receive the shots on the tested schedule, the fact is, had they been following the schedule, I would not have received my first shot yet.
So, who am I to complain.

Good!
If I remember correctly, the Pfizer trials showed 80% protection 14 days after the first dose. That's very high as vaccines go.
Also, the doctors I am following say delaying the second dose will probably even give higher eventual protection as compared to taking it at the 21-day mark. 21 days was chosen for the trials because of the urgency of getting a vaccine approved in the midst of a bad pandemic.

Will it make a difference if I get exposed to SARS-COV-2?
When are you getting vaccinated?
Last Wednesday, the clinic just barely beat out Costco as far as 'who got it first', for first shot. Still not going to quit being careful, even a few weeks after the second shot.

i'm with you. though i think you can't carry the virus after the second shot, i'm not going to argue with anyone about mask wearing. will still wear it until we get some sort of all clear.
and btw, just WHEN will we get an all clear? and from whom?
inquiring minds want to know.

- I agree with you about wearing a mask even after the second shot! I recently read (don't remb where) that Dr. F and the CDC are looking at sometime in June to issue an all clear as that is the goal for herd immunity. I find that a bit optimistic since variants are continually popping up and many states, especially in the mid west, are seeing Covid 19 cases as high as they were back in April, 2020.
