Just as a follow up in case anyone ever reads this thread I deliberately started sleeping on my side and I no longer see quite the same Mt. Everest sized blast. Looks like starting on my back closes my throat quickly.

For some people the difference in pressure needs when on their back vs side is quite remarkable. For others not so much but if you are one of those people it can make a huge difference.
I know someone who needs 19 cm when on their back but only 9 cm when on their side. I don't blame them one bit for figuring out a way to stay on their side which BTW is easier said than done sometimes.

Update: I've actually been able to fall asleep on my side now and the results are significant. No more repeated CA's as I fall asleep and my overall numbers are noticeably improved as well. Last night had a first-ever AHI of 0.00 to boot.
