as pugsy and palerider said, no big deal to use tap water. just clean out the buildup.

for me, it's a war between laziness and being cheap.

laziness wins out and i buy distilled.

That is why I also buy distilled but if I run out of distilled I have to problem using tap water if that's all I have.
I am not real fond of the smell of vinegar either.... and it seems like no matter how much I wash and rinse the water chamber after using vinegar it still stinks to me.

Where I live we are on a well and the water is so hard it would slap a person in the face if it could and give you a black eye.....kills coffee makers in about 6 months so that's why my Keurig gets bottled water as well. That puppy is too expensive to be buying a new one every 6 months. Since I buy water for the Keurig every week it's not a big deal to pick up a gallon of distilled which usually lasts me about a month. Now back when all this Covid crap started I couldn't find distilled for a short period of time and bottled spring water wasn't easy to find either. The Keurig got the bottled water and the cpap got well water. So you know where my priorities are.
It's not the end of the world to use a little vinegar (or in my case lemon juice since it smells better) to remove the mineral build up in the water chamber.

haha, no, obviously I'm going to put the cap back on every time. By opened I mean no longer sealed. For w/e reason I assumed that distilled is similar to sterile, so thank you for correcting me there.

and we were on a well in flagstaff, too. not nearly as bad as what i grew up with. but yeah, bottled water for the keurig there, for sure.

As stated in our clinical and user guides, *optimal* humidifier performance requires distilled water. That’s because most or all of its minerals have been removed, preventing mineral buildup in the humidifier tub. That said, tap or bottled water may also be used. It will not harm the device or pose a risk to patients. It will, however, require more rigorous humidifier cleaning to prevent excess mineral buildup in the tub.

Arizona water is nasty, we have a softener and an under sink ro system and I still buy distilled for my pap machine. To lazy to walk to the kitchen sink at night. Hubby uses the ro for his keurig, tho.

Once, I foolishly bought "distilled" water from an iffy neighborhood market.
Pink slimy gunk.
Never bought from that store--ANYTHING AT ALL.
They lost ALL my business by selling creepy water.
