Browsing the posts on this site I see heavy use of acronyms with no explanation of what they stand for. Is there a glossary somewhere to help an old guy follow the conversations?

If you can't find something...just ask.
A lot of us have made our own like SWJ which is sleep/wake/junk and refers to flagged events shown on the software reports that were flagged when we were awake or half awake. Unless we are asleep...the flagged events don't count and the machine doesn't know if we are asleep or not.

I’ve already learned a lot just reading through the posts. For example, I have heard of Central Sleep Apnea, but never was inquisitive enough to search out what it was. I did that this morning and found it very interesting.

Knowledge is a good thing, but not all that is written is reliable.
Do not let random bits of information worry you.
Many things that can be problematic are much less common than the writers would have you think.
Researchers are always feeling pressure to publish; and a lot of garbage gets out there.

Agreed. But sometimes you don’t use the right search terms. I searched for SWJ and couldn’t find it. I just searched again and added sleep and it was the first hit after the ads.

If I had Google during school, I would have been a straight A student and had time to goof off.

That stands for "Sleep-Wake-Junk". In other words, events which occur as you're falling asleep or as you're waking up.

But, I agree........too many acronyms for the folks just starting in this therapy........or even for those who have been in it for much longer. And, unfortunately, the "search" function won't/can't search for 3 letters or less.

Please note a little forum search quirk...if you don't have at least 4 characters the search box...it's going to come up with a blank.

SWJ alone will yield zero results because it only has 3 characters.
Same thing if a person searches for AHI all by itself...and we talk about it ad nauseam here.

The forum search function simply doesn't know how to do searches for anything with less than 4 characters in the search box.

I had forgotten, but Googlehas the power to search within a website for terms you specify. I tried:

cpaptalk.com: swj

and got so many hits it was almost worthless, but one of the hits was titled Sleep, Wake, Junk

Google is so powerful I forget what it can do and know I’ve only scratched the surface.

Yep...I forget about Google and the site search thing. I do use it myself sometimes when I know sort of what I want to find and can't find it easily with the forum search.
I don't always remember to recommend it though and I should but I am old and I forget stuff.

This change will have a performance impact though may not be noticeable and an increase in search index size.

DS you do know that my eyes totally glazed over with the above. Remember I am doing good to remember to do the Google site: search thing.

I haven't looked to see if that's an option to me/everyone or a behind the scenes software programming thing which I don't have any access to any of that kind of stuff.
I can't even change the darn "you can't make so many posts withing so many minutes thing"....that's above my pay grade too.

And that is why 3 letter names are frowned upon, too many worthless hits. Jim
