If I'm in bed with a partner, or if I'm sleeping in a dorm at a backpacker hostel with others in the same room, will the CPAP completely stop my snoring so that my sleep is soundless to everyone in the room? Or will a little of that still happen? Do your bed partners say that your sleep is soundless when using CPAP?

Everyone is different. Some people may not snore at all, others a little (I'm in that category) and others a lot. Much depends on whether you still breathe through your mouth when sleeping, air temps, comfort, degree of sleep apnea, humidity levels, machine, and so on. The best way to find out is either ask a bed partner or use a snoring app on your phone to record you while you're sleeping (probably the more reliable option).

Quick question about the masks:

I've decided that the type of mask that fits me best and is most comfortable is the type with the plugs that go into your nostrils only and doesn't cover your mouth or nose. What kind of mask is that called? If that's the type that works best for me, which brand and make/model do you all recommend?

Also, someone who wears a mask that covers both his nose and mouth told me that he doesn't need a humidifier because the moisture from his mouth gets recycled back into his throat because of the closed mouth and nose piece. Is that generally true for everyone? Just wondering.

When I zoom in on the pics, it looks like the nasal buds are very short and won't go far into the nose. That's good. The less intrusive the better.

Yes he was kind of arrogant. How did you guess? You must be psychic. lol Either that, or very intuitive.

Either way, I'm like pugsy, I don't like pieces pressing against my nose or face. So the nasal pillow masks would probably be best for me.

Mask choice is highly individual. Lots of people, myself included, try several (or many!) masks before they find one that they either like or will work for them.

Of the choices at the link you provided, I was really only able to tolerate the Nuance Pro. I had a lot of difficulty finding a mask that I could actually use. A lot of people like the Airfit P10 (my husband among them) but I never could use that one and I tried 3 times.

I prefer to travel with the same make/model cpap and mask that I use at home. That makes life easy for supplies and being familiar with settings and how things work.

Keep in mind that IF you are in your *compliance period* you should use that very same machine to make sure hours of use are calculated correctly on the right machine.

The "waterless" humidifiers are expensive to use, because of a chemical-impregnated pad
that you use only few nights and have to replace.
Spares will occupy luggage space.

What does "compliance period" mean? Can you explain?

Btw, do CPAPs have filters that you have to change? If so, how often do you have to change them? Are the filters custom or interchangeable?
