I am thinking of buying a manometer to check my machine. I am constantly exhausted. Machine is about 7 years old. I have to have new sleep study but probaly wont get in till July because of virus. The company I bought the machine is no longer in my area. Has anyone ever used manometer?

You can rig a perfectly usable one up in your kitchen for practically nothing.
Money burning a hole in your pocket?

A Manometer is a nice toy, and I have always liked toys, but buying one isn't necessary.

Also a set CM number isn't necessary, if you have a full data XPAP, just look at the data. If your treatment is working correctly the number is just a reference point.

The point is to have the XPAP set to the pressure that holds your airway open, the cm number doesn't hold it open, just the pressure does that. As long as the machine provides the pressure and volume of air to hold your airway open a number doesn't matter.

It only provides a calibration point to see if your machine is set to the magic number in cm it's supposed to be set for. Also to be used correctly, the XPAP must be working at it's max flow rate for measuring the cm's. Dead Ending the pressure, measures the pressure, but doesn;t take into account the machines ability to keep the air volume flowing at the needed spec. You need both to know if the machine works correctly. Jim

Why?
If you get an auto, then it can help you find the best pressure range.
Repeat sleep studies are often unnecessary--used as easy money.

Why do you want another study? I assume you already have a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. With the right CPAP machine and help from the forum, you can optimize your CPAP therapy better than the sleep lab/doctor will do.

It is not that I want one. Medicare wont pay for supplies or a new machine till I have one done. I just am looking to feel better. Something is not right

Who is telling you that? I know several people who turned 65 and got Medicare to pay for a new machine and supplies. They had an older sleep study on file at their doctor's office. Those studies are accepted by Medicare.

I went to local DME here. They said since I had not had a sleep study in 18 years I had to have one before Medicare would pay. I have consistently used CPAP for 18 years. I took SD card to doctor and they said SD Card was empty so now I have to wait on sleep test. I have used software called sleepyhead before to read SD card. I am going to try to find that again. Maybe that will tell me something.

Call Medicare--only they know.
DMEs have been known to lie.
You could get stuck paying FULL PRICE for a sleep study not required by Medicare.
Empty sd card?
Not because you were not using the machine--usage goes on the card--if you use it.
Otherwise, something is defective--call Medicare anyway.
Your doctor could be gaming for a kickback from the sleep lab.
Medicare should know if your doctor is deleting sd cards.

Thanks! I will definetly call Medicare tomorrow. They should be able to tell me. When I get home I am going to download sleepyhead to my pc and see what it shows on the SD card. Never thought I would be stuck with cost of sleep study.
