Zonker, what a gorgeous setting! I'll be rooting for you to have a weather-tight exterior before rainy season, even if there's a LITTLE more work left on the punch list. (My husband is a retired general contractor, so I have to say, there's ALWAYS a little more work left on the punch list.)
it is! we are in the shade of a mountain, which keeps away the morning sun. and that's fine with me. on the other side is some pasture land. if you go far enough, past I5, you get to the various and sundry bays and islands.

though i didn't come to washington state until i was 25, i do feel very comfortable here. i don't mind the weather one bit.

i'm hoping that punch list, though, remains small!

Great to see the pics, Zonker! Thanks a lot for sharing. Looks like everything is coming along really well. 👍 A lovely house in a peaceful place - can't hope for more than that.
Re: the issue of rain on the roof....You will lovvvve it. I'm not sure about the metal things you had on the house when you were younger, but there is nothing more relaxing than the sound of rain on a metal roof. I grew up in a house with that sort of roof, and it rarely rained where I grew up, but it was just so nice when it did. Let's put it this way....since you said it rains there for a lot of the year, I HOPE you like it. Really, though, I'm sure you will. It's especially great when you are going to sleep at night.
Hope you can move in by 1st Sept.. If not, I'm sure it won't be too much longer than that.
All the best, and continued good progress with the house.
you know, it occurs to me that i sleep with a noise generator anyway.

maybe i won't even notice!
What's the noise generator you sleep with, Zonker? Your CPAP machine? Or your wife? Does she snore? 😋 Just trying to guess. No offense to your wife. She looks very nice!

no i've been using a white noise generator to sleep with long before i found i had apnea. generally, i just stick with white noise, though other people seem to enjoy pink or brown or whatever.

i find now that it actually disturbs my sleep if i'm away from home and forgot to bring it with me.

the noise generator, not my wife.

I generally do not sleep well if my husband isn't next to me.
He is easier to travel with than a noise generator too. At least, most of the time.

 Gotcha. I'm glad I asked. 😊 I'd have remained curious about it!
Great idea re: the white noise generator. I've thought about buying one at times. Will get around to it some day.

aaawww! that's sweet.

i dunno, you can stuff a noise generator in a bag and ignore it.

a husband, not so much.

<shrug> it works for me. some people can't stand them and have to have perfect quiet while sleeping.

it takes all kinds.

True. I don't like it too quiet, though, because I have tinnitus. The quieter it is, the louder the tinnitus. I usually go to sleep with some sort of relaxation CD on, but white noise and similar noises would be better.
I don't think we call them noise generators in Aust., as it didn't ring a bell when I read it. Just had a look on Google, and we just call them 'white noise machines', apparently. I found a good one for people with tinnitus in my Google search, which I might buy when they get them back in stock. It's got recordings of all the sounds it makes at the bottom of the page. The only "bad" thing about it is that the rain sounds don't sound like rain....more like a running tap. :? Never mind. There are plenty of other sounds on there, and I'd probably try them all out eventually.
Here's a link to it, if you're interested in checking it out, esp. all the diff. sounds at the bottom of the page.

I downloaded a free app to a spare smartphone. The app has several choices, and the pink noise is very pleasant for me. The spare smartphone stays on my nightstand always ready to be put into use.

I was wondering why anyone would need a machine to do that when smart phones all have those programs. But I didn't want to ask.

one reason is that i'm an old fashioned guy about some things and the machine is one. been using a noise generator since way before the advent of smartphones.

the other reason is that i'm TERRIBLE at remembering to charge up my phone!

i had forgotten you were aussie. and yeah, my current machine makes various and sundry noises too. (come to think of it, so do i) but i stick with the traditional white noise.

 my husband used to be very old fashioned about cell phones and would only use them for making calls, then would complain he never heard from our daughters. (They were both in college at the time) Finally I bought an Iphone and had the daughters give it to him for fathers day. They started texting him and after much grumbling and complaining he finally figured out he could watch football games or play games on his phone. Today he is as attached to his phone as I am to mine.

Now I'm the one grumbling when he and daughters boyfriend made our house smart and put in all the google gadgets.

Is your new house going to be a smart house ?

the only thing smarter than me in the new house will be my wife.

now, don't get wrong. i'm no luddite. i really like my smartphone. in our current area(and even more so when we move into the house) there aren't very many "good" radio stations. so i really appreciate the oldies streaming apps. i also love the maps and being able to find the nearest burger king or what have you.

and texting is the BEST. i don't do well on voice calls. so texting someone is ideal for me. plus, it's kind of like leaving a voice mail message in that they will text back when it's convenient.

it's just that my brain can't get used to the fact that all of the above drains the battery on the poor thing!

It is most certainly a desert. I couldn't believe my eyes, because I was stationed at Lewis, but drove right through Snoqualmie and there was a freaking desert.
yup. it's right handy having that mountain range down the middle of the state. keeps the crazies away.

Nice house Zonker, glad it's finally coming together.
be nice when it's done, for sure. haven't seen you around here for awhile, it's good to know you didn't wonder off and get lost.
I've been...shall we say, "busy", as you can imagine. But, give me time, I'm only 42, but my wife tells me I'm losing my mind more and more everyday. I can hardly argue with her. At some point, I'm likely to be found sleeping half naked in a dumpster, sucking on my thumb and using a pink unicorn fluffy as a pillow.
