F30 vs F30i Mask

Post by wacomme » Thu Apr 30, 2020 7:16 am

For those of you who have used both of these ResMed masks, other than hose placement is there any difference in how these masks fit? I ask because no matter what I try the F30 mask leaks everywhere on me. However, my N30i mask leaks very little, and it used the same nasal pillows as the F30 mask. So I'm wondering if the mask harness is the reason on fits and other doesn't.

I have used both. the F30i is the best. /With the f30i, zero to very infrequent leaks. All masks have the potential to leak if you move just the right way or are more active than normal or you have the wrong cushion size. One note: On the F30, the small cushion was perfect. On the F30i, the small cushion was too small, had to change to the small wide cushion. If you use a medium or large cushion, you should be good to go.

Good to hear. I've been using the F30 with good results and am awaiting delivery today of the F30i from our sponsor.

What size frame do you have? I ask because there's no sizing chart for the F30i frame, just the cushions.

According the the fit guide, I'm a size medium cushion for the F30i. However, the fit guide for the N30i mask says I'm a size small. And I have a small frame on the N30i mask. The small cushions and small frame of the N30i fit me perfectly. But there are only two sizes for the N30i mask (small, standard) whereas there are three sizes for the F30i mask (small, standard, large). So, since I measure a medium cushion for the F30i, should I also get the standard frame?

The small frame is perfect for me for the F30i. However, I started with a small cushion for my F30i but it was too small. I changed to the SW cushion size (small wide). It works perfectly. I would say if you are currently using a small frame, you will stick with a small frame, but you may need to go up a cushion size like I did. You may need the SW (small wide) or medium cushion. If the sizing chart shows you are a med, then I would go ahead & use the med cushion.

Turns out the F30i beats the F30 for me. Very comfortable and leak free so far. I use the medium cushion and large frame. My hat size is an 8 and the large is about perfect.

Since the sizing guide said I need a medium cushion, I ordered the medium cushion and standard frame from cpap.com.

Hey there- any chance you're side sleeper? Curious about flow limitation if you lay on one of the two silicone channels coming down on the side of the face. Have you heard any first-hand accounts of this?

Cheers

You did what the regulars call, "revived a zombie thread". No one has posted in the thread for over three years.

But, here I am. I use the F30i and sleep part of the night on my side. The flow limitations do not increase. ResMed thoroughly tested this mask with one side completely blocked off. The set pressure is maintained.

Let me say one other thing. In this thread, comparative leaks are being discussed without mentioning an important point. The F30 has a traditional connection point on the mask for the hose. When the user moves, the hose can pull on the mask and cause leaks. The F30i hose connection is on the top of the head. Pulling on the hose is unlikely to cause leaks.

Zombie thread. Love it! Thanks for the info and sounds like you're an experienced user. I'm going to buy the mask today- BTW do you use a mask liner at all to keep the drool, etc contained? Cheers-

I would be thrilled to drool in my mask. Dry mouth is awful. Mine may be caused by the medication I take. Or something else. Have never figured it out. I have to take exceptional steps all day long to prevent dry mouth.

I have both: the F30's main advantage is that it's got an adjustment strap on the top of my head. So it's got a total of 5 points of adjustment vs 4 for the F30i. With the F30, I can keep the other 4 straps just slightly snug and comfortable, and get a great fit. The F30i takes a bit more fiddling around to get a good fit and seal that lasts until morning. And the hose on top? It's okay but I prefer the F30 hose attachment location - personal preference I guess.

Both are good masks.

I saw videos of that and think that's a huge plus- especially because it needs to be snug against the bottom of your nose, right? Needs something to pull it up. I'm trying the F20 for awhile and will move to the F30 if it's too uncomfortable.

I'm sorry to hear you're having that problem- sucks to have one more thing to deal with. You have a hose cover so you can crank up the humidity and avoid rainout?
